I have been looking at the Optimize Image menu on my New Nikon D80 and the default settings for image sharpening, tone compensation ,saturation and hue is set to auto.
My question is do most people keep them set on the default auto setting or do you set them to normal or any of the other settings.I am looking to get the best performance I can.

thank you for your help and advice in advance
Neil

Are you shooting in RAW or JPEG?
I ask because if it's RAW, it won't make any difference!

I think that all settings in camera are only applied to jpg rather than RAW. If you shoot in RAW there is no point in changing.

Actually, not quite true. If you use Nikon Capture NX as your post-processing software, your in camera settings will be applied to the RAW file.

At the moment Iam using viewNX would it best putting the camera settings to normal ?

I've always left mine as default/normal. Best to play with these settings at the PP stage IMO!
