D80 Battery Grip problems

Anybody have one of these? I've recently bought one and it seems to work fine except the camera doesn't recognise the battery when one's installed in the left hand compartment only. It works fine with 6 AA's installed and it works fine with the EN-EL3e in the right compartment only. Do I need to have two EN-EL3e's installed for the camera to recognise the left hand battery? Unfortunately I don't have two Nikon batteries to be able to try it.

mine works fine with 1 battery in it and left or right slot makes no difference both are recognised.

Thanks for that. That's all I wanted to know so back it goes from whence it came. All I seem to do lately is send defective stuff back
