Hi All

As some of you maybe aware, I put my D810 and other photography equipment for sale due to not using it as much as I'd like too.

However...when i sell, i still need a camera for if I ever just want to get out taking snaps.

Since 2010, I've always shot dx format nikons, and have had roughly 10 different bodies starting from d40 to my last dx being a d7000.

Now I'm looking at two potential bodies, the d7200 and d750.

I'd be shooting long exposure landscapes with a 20mm f/1.8g lens

Has anyone had experience of both bodies, and can shed a little light into how they fair.

Any help would be appreciated

If you already have the lens I would go FF.

If landscapes are your thing then the D750 is the way to go, it should give you a bit better IQ.

Thank you, I wasn't too sure if rhe d750's were any good at first

Have you thought of a d600 or d610 if it's going to be used for landscapes.

I've not looked to be honest, although now the d610 is looking promising

If you already have the lens I would go FF.

I've got a 16-35 at minute, but will be trading to get that said lens

Then surely what camera you buy is dictated by the field of view you want from that lens?

As Ned has already said, if you going to us the 20mm f1.8 its going to be a 30mm equivalent on the 7200 compared to the 20mm you get on the 750.
IQ wise at base iso in all practical purposes you be hard pressed to tell the difference.

If you're set on the 20mm, it all depends on which angle of view you want. The D750 would get my vote because it's a fantastic camera and it can be set to give a Dx crop in camera or cropped in post to give you (effectively) a 20-30mm zoom.

I've not seen any comparisons of long exposure noise levels but would expect the D750 to handle them better.

My question would be why you would sell the D810 to replace it with a D750 if landscapes are your thing?

I think the main reason I bought the D810 was to cover weddings. Now that I have stopped them, I see it as nearly 2k sitting in my wardrobe doing nothing. At most, I use it about 2 nights a month.
P.s, I'm lost with the chocolate puns :tumbleweed:

But I've seen a couple of mint barely used D810's for £1695 this week from reputable UK stores and so come with 6 months (LCE) and 12 months (Harrisons), so privately you'd be looking at less than this, and a D750 would be £1400 new and would devalue much more than your D810, which has already lost its value. Unless of course you buy a D750 used.

As for the chocolate 'puns' it's referencing comments on another thread ;)

IIRC Mark paid £1695 for his D810 from Jonathon with some extras. I was considering buying it at the same time, so remember the deal. Agreed, I would think buying a new D750 wouldn't make much sense and you would expect the D810 & 20mm to be a very nice combo for landscapes.

I shoot landscapes and I used to use a D810 (from work) and now a D750 which is my own - both excellent, but the D810 is very slightly better for this genre as you have more megapixels to play with and it's slightly sharper due to the removal of the high pass filter. It's only a small difference though and both are great cameras, dynamic range is about the same but the D750 is noticeably lighter which is a bonus lugging around all day. As Snerkler said though it wouldn't seem to make financial sense to swap because of trade in values

Tbh weight used to be quite an issue for me, but now using the 70-200mm and 150-600mm mainly I'm not sure I'd notice much weight difference between the two? Maybe more so when I have my 18-35mm attached as that's a very light lens, but I'm still considering swapping my D750 for one ;)

Ah all valid points. Might just get rid of the 16-35 lens for a 20mm f/1.8

For landscape I'd look to a used D800. Actually better for that sort of work than a D750 I think

But he already has the D810 o_O

Lol my bad ! The D810 is superior to a D750 for that line of work.
To be fair he's put it up for sale, but it'd make no sense (to me at least) to sell the D810 and buy a D800 ;)

Did I see you mention you were looking to move on a D750 pal ?

I'm torn between the D810/800/750
Possibly, I haven't decided yet as need to get some hands on time with a D810 first to see how I get on with it.

Well, the d810 has sold along with all of my gear. Now, I need to decide what to do.

Take a break from it, and see the world...

Or

Buy a cheaper camera, use it more and hopefully win back the love for photography I once had.

Decisons....

So was I and have used all. I was able to borrow a D810 from work and shoot landscapes with that for a year, but then needed to get my own camera as using the D810 wasn't possible anymore - sadly I couldn't afford a D810 so I bought a used D800E from a major used seller - turned out to have hundreds of spots on images, sent it back twice and it was eventually diagnosed as having laser damage to the sensor. The retailer gave me the option of a refund or swapping for an older D800 or an 'as new' D750 - went with the latter which had the same spot problem as the D800E!

At that point decided to get a brand new camera as used seemed to be so problematic, and if I could afford it would have bought a D810, the image quality is spectacular but as I don't sell my pictures couldn't justify it, so bought a new D750 instead. It's a great camera, possibly the best all rounder there is and well priced - the dynamic range is as wide as the D810 in real word experience and quality is still excellent, although obviously not quite as detailed at 100%. In print you probably wouldn't notice that unless you're printing mega sizes. I have prints from both the D810 and D750 and you can't tell the difference at all, both look great. To summarise if you can afford it and shoot landscapes go for a D810, otherwise the D750 is 95% as good and you'll save a lot of cash! Also go on Snapsort and compare the D810 and D750 and see which wins!

I went with a D810. Already have a D800 so it should be a nice match :) thanks for the advice dude

I would like to add though that getting hands on with the camera is more important imo. I tried a D810 yesterday and could not get on with the grip and so sticking with my D750. It wouldn't matter to me if the D810 was massively better, it was just too uncomfortable for my knackered hands :(
