Hi all

Have had a rather frustrating incident over the weekend - in short, Nikon D7100 with attached 85mm lens fell from approx. 5 feet with an almighty smash onto an oak floor....at this point I feared the worse!!

Have looked at the camera and all appears ok - to be fair not even an external mark on the body - however there appears to be a rattle to the body, not much but sure it wasn't there before!(Maybe its now my paranoia...) the lens was dented and the uv filter smashed to smithereens but other than that the kens still seems to operate as it should.

Is there anywhere people could recommend to get the body inspected to make sure all ok? (I live in Ipswich area.)

Thanks

I bounced my A77 with a similarly big lens on it off a concrete pavement from about a yard up. I was amazed to discover few marks and that it all seemed to work ok. I feared some kind of misalignment of the lens mount, so I tested it very carefully with my widest and longest lenses. Couldn't find anything. That was six months ago and the camera has shown not the slightest sign of injury. Lesser falls have seriously wrecked previous plastic bodied cameras of mine. My conclusion is that tough magnesium bodied cameras are impressively tough.

Is the rattle in the pop-up? That's often the culprit in suspicious rattles.

could well be the pop up flash - is it worth getting it serviced/inspected or the like - -- or if it seems ok then just crack on?/ lol....thanks for taking the time to comment.

I'd just crack on, until and if you find something definite and repestable that seems not to be working OK. A generic test to see if there's anything wrong would be more expensive than a test of something specific. After all, it's always possible that it wasn't working quite well enough when you got it. But that way lies endless paranoia. What matters is whether it's working well enough for you.
