Hi all,

I've recently replaced my D70 with a D7000. The lens i use the most is a Sigma 17-125mm lens and with the new camera i quickly noticed that the pictures arent focused on the selected focus area. The focusing is pin sharp but its around a foot further behind where its supposed to be. This is particularly noticable at the 17mm end of the range, as you move toward 50-55mm the problem gets less and then disappears. This is a nightmare for some portrait shots.

I've put the lens back on the D70 body and the problem is there too only not as noticable so i'm sure its the lens.

Is this a characterisitic of this lens or do i need to look for a new lens? The lens isnt motorised, the camera body does the focusing. My other lens is also a Sigma and the focusing on that one is 100% (that lens is motorised)

Any suggestions would be greatfully received.

sounds like it just back focusing, all my lenses so far have had back focus, easy to fix, you just need to use the AF fine tune in the menu - setup menu - AF Fine tune. theres plenty of threads on here to examplin how to do it, i just used a spirit lever laid on the floor with the measuring ruler thats on it and focused on 50cm, then adjusted the AF Fine tune untill it focused on the 50cm number, you want to be standing at around a 45 degree angle facing downwards

Many thanks for your reply. I did read about the fine tune but maybe im thinking about it wrong. If i alter the fine tune to get the 17mm focal length correct, would the camera be front focusing further up the focal length (where the focusing is perfect at the moment)

regards
Mark
