Hi all, had my D700 about 5 weeks now and sadly not been able to get out that much and have a play with the 700. I used it today with a 50mm f1.8G and have to say the images haven’t come out as sharp as I thought they should. I would love to hear from 700 users what settings they use in their shooting menu & setup menu. Some of my settings are still default except for changing to 14bit and not compressed. I was hoping they would come out sharper using a 50mm.

None of those settings will make much of a difference to sharpness, its going to be down to either user error, over expectation, or a soft copy of the lens, which is very unsual.

I have had mine for just over two weeks and have also used it a few times with my 50mm f1.8 with no issues with sharpness at all, been delighted with it's performance.

Not had an issues with sharpness, mostly shoot j-peg,and dial in a bit of sharpness in the menu :)

Thanks all, need to use it more and have Steadier hands I think. Did notice like a ploka I am left it on higher ISO after using it in the house without flash. The camera itself is fantastic in low light.

Thanks for your time

I've had mine 3 weeks now and I haven't changed much from the default settings and mines has had no issues with quality of pics. I gotta say the D700 does handle colour tones really nicely in strong sunshine.

Only thing I dislike about the D700 is it's "mushy" thumbpad selector.

you need to make sure you nail the focus, the DOF is approx 1mm when shooting f1.8 with the subject 1m away, so easy for you or something to move..
