Any guesses as to what the trade and private sale will be for a good condition D700?

If i can , this will be my next body . so saving up now !

They usually go on here for about 1400 S/H.

let me add the D3 as well. I think within 12 months they will have released a fair few models. My idea then would be a good private sale for a D3 for about £1100.00

Look at the completed listing on eBay. While they are available for @£1700 new currently you are likely to get one on there for between £1200 and £1500. Heavily used, damaged or otherwise dodgy examples will probably be about cheaper soon enough.

My guess would be unless there is a massively improved replacement that comes on the market at considerably lower price point than the current model - the used price will hold up and you'll be very lucky to get a good one for much less than a grand. If there is a replacement that is only marginally better (or perceived as materially worse) then the used price will stick where it is. Given the economic problems we are about to experience the exchange rate could hammer the pound any new model is likely to be even more costly than it otherwise would be - this will tend to prop up used values.

Highly unlikely.

See above for why - short of a massive hike in the value of the pound and a dramatic change in Nikon model pricing I expect you'll be looking at @£1000 for a good D700 and £1700 for a decent (not ex-press) D3.

I agree, just look at prices now to what they were 2 years ago, A 1dmk3 is £2800 I paid £2400 from Jessops 2 year ago, everything has gone nuts.

Depends if its a genuine 'new' D800 or a rebadged effort (D700s) like the D300(s). If its a bit of an update in the 300s mode then I think within a few months the general selling price would be around the £1750 mark, not too many would upgrade and the SH price would stay around £1300-£1400 mark, obviously a bit less work older high shutter count cameras. If however its more of a D800, with say dual memory card (think 700 has one), say 15mp, even better ISO and whatever else Nikon can add then I think SH price may drop more, but cant see it coming below £1k until say a D900 comes out.

The old model is generally about 50 - 60 % of the new model retail price(not RRP). If you take the D300/D300s as an example the D300s was about £1,450 when introduced and a used D300 at the time was about £850. The D300s price is now down to £1,115 and a used D300 is about £650-680.

D3s price now £3,499 used price of a D3 about £1,900.

These are all TP sales forum prices not used dealer prices.
The D700 replacement will probably come in around £2,200 and fall to about £1,800 this puts the used D700 prices in the range of £1,300 to £1,100.

I think it's unlikely that prices of D700 and D3 bodies will fall as dramaatically as previous DSLR bodies for reasons we have discussed elsewhere.
The Image-Quality on the newer bodies that supercede them isn't going to be significantly better as has been seen in the past.
A D3 at 200 iso is no worse than a D3s at 200 iso, so for a sub-20,000 actuations body, you'll still be looking at £1700-1800...
Likewise with the D700...

Not everyone wants or needs the additional iso-range and video capability that the D3s has (and the succesor to the D700 is likely to have).
Existing buyers aren't going to upgrade these particular models in a hurry IMO...

And those that do are likely to retain the D700 / D3 etc as a second body and sell off whatever they had as their previous second body, which will still stifle the resale market and keep prices buoyant.

I'm hoping we have reached "mad max" stage with the recession !! Then i am going shopping !
