My D700 has just come back from Nikon UK after a repair from some clumsy idiot damage.

I was happy to see it back and they seemed to listen to my request to turn it around quickly as my wife is due to give birth within the month.

Everything is great apart from the fact that the controls on the grip no longer work.

Is it possible that they disconnected something inside that stopped the grip from working? I didn't send the grip off with the camera.

Or is there a command somewhere to disable the grip?

Thanks

Without sounding rude- is it switched on? Baffled me one night when I was busy

Thanks for the suggestions Yvonne and Scotty.

It certainly looks like a fault, they have also lost the cover from one of the switches (the one in the front for C, S, M autofocus).

bother...

Phone them up to inform them of the problem and that you're not happy then send it back again...this time it should be FOC...

I've had repairs back from them before with switches not being reconnected, so definitely a quite likely.

Yes - switched on

Yes AF-ON selected

no Aperture/shutter speed control or auto focus on af on or half press

sorry, my grip is a third party, so forgive me for asking...no controls on the switches but have you got AF on the grip shutter button? I only ask because that a10 menu seems to have more options for buried under it, which I have never even found until last night :cuckoo:

Hi Yvonne,

The A10 button allows you to reprogram the AF-on Button on the switch to do various other things. As I switch off my the half press focus I always leave the AF-ON button as autofocus.

None of the controls on the grip work, including the Aperture and shutter speed dials, the af-on and the shutter.

No Nikon Support on Saturday so I'll call them Tuesday. I don't want to risk not having it for the newborn so I'll have to arrange to send it back in a month or two. Unless thy can promise a REALLY quick turn around...

Is there anyone else nearby with a D700+Grip you can have a quick play with to make sure which part is non-functional?

Good Idea, north london here Pete, but if you passing anyway, give me a shout.

Also, would it speed things up if you deliver/deliver to Nikon at Kingston?
