D700 price reduction

I'm not surprise to be honest. Rumor and rumor about replacement coming soon and with D700/300s high street price is on a sale etc. That means a new replacement will be announcing.

D300/s is well worth picking up as it still a good camera, I bought a D300 for around £400 and i use it as my main camera instead of my D7000 now.

D700 price will definite go down on both new and used. It may not be instantly but will go down pretty soon by the end of the year. I would say used will be around £1000. Many of the D700 owner mention the price won't go down because of D800 is a different camera, but in reality it will even tho you don't want to believe.
 
Has anyone seen MPB's site lately? Lots of cheap D700s on there, totally battered and with ridiculous shutter counts but the prices are crazy, like £699 upwards...!

You damn right, Those D700 is completely battered and super high shutter count. We talking about 250-400k shutter count.

I think those D700 is coming from company that loan cameras to the pro. Most of those D700 were painted with a white writing on the top.
 
I'm impressed by the high shutter counts, they are only rated for 150k. Not sure if replaced shutters carry on the counter or restart it... :shrug:
 
LOL really got my hopes up when I first had a look at the D700`s on MPB!
 
MPB have 6month warranty i take it on those D700? after the 6month your camera insurance is cover on new for old basis if i you have a insurance?

Should say do the insurance company actually insured you? I know my can cover me up to 5k in total on total.

Correct, and the D700 along with the D300s have been officially placed in the discontinued section on Nikon's website. This means with a high degree of certainty that the D800 and possibly the D400(?) will be announced sometime in Q1. Nikon rumors suggest the 6th of Feb for the D800.

In my opinion the D400 is the biggest threat to used D700 prices not the D800. If they decide to extend the full frame range to the D400 then prices must fall....

Did I mention that I'm selling my D700? ;)

Don't think they need it to be honest, the Nikon Professional Services reps on Scott Kelby's live broadcast last night said that the response to the D4 has been overwhelming and that he could reasonably see the D4 being on backorder for the next 6 months as demand continues to outstrip supply.
 
If D700 used price drop alot, i may consider buying the D700 and sell my D300. Altho i bought my used D300 recently but i could at least use all my accessories i.e battery grip and battery on the D700.

I nearly had a heart attack. It's only a couple of weeks since I paid nearly double some of those prices for mine.

Looking at the pictures though they're cheap for a very good reason. A lot of them seem to have gaping holes in the body. Still, maybe worth a punt for somebody. I assume a lot of them have had the odd shutter service/replacement so could be plenty of life left in them.

If the shutter had been replaced the counter would have been reset, so nearly 500k on one shutter :thumbs:

D4 - I managed to get my pre-order in before it appeared on Wex's website, and I've been cheeky and found out that I'm in the first five of the queue. They've got 60 pre-orders but have only allocated 10 to customers, implying they only feel confident they'll receive around 10 to start with. Fingers crossed I'll get one of the first. (Not always a good thing lol...)

I wonder if MPB cover shutter failure with such high mileage. If not, what looks like a cheap camera could cost a fair bit in the event of a shutter failure and a cosmetic service. Also worth a gamble though.

wow, this this is a lot, but it tells you how reliable they are, on average of course.

I believe the market will play out just like the 5D did. The price has only one way to go for the bodies and it is down. It will have to drop under £1k but I really wouldn't expect that until the market is oversaturated with it's replacement.

I might pick one up when they get really cheap so that I can mix and match the best lenses of both systems.
 
I'm waiting to grab a cheap D700 as well. D700 pretty much can do what i want anyway, can't really see a fault on the camera.

Ideally, the flash should be in the pan :naughty:

Frankly, I don't care about one in pro cameras, but would be very relieved if it disappeared from all entry level dSLRs and PS. I hate being flashed, particularly in the dark.

Ah, I like the pop up. Having a CLS commander for Nikon flashes/dumb optical trigger for studio strobes is really handy.
 
I dont think the D700 is going to drop that fast, I mean there is not alot of money out there at the moment so D800's are not going to fly off the shelves, Plus supply is going to be low as Nikon still has production issues so while demand outstrips supply prices stay high....maybe thats too simplistic

Jessops and Many other have back orders from Nov 2011 of the D700 YET Nikon has discontinued its production of the model according to the Japan website link above? - why are stores still happy to take orders, is the most confusing part:thinking:


Unless Nikon are gonna forfill D700 orders with the new model, rewarding loyal customers:naughty:
 
I bought one of the well used ones from MPB yesterday. It was delivered this morning and I must say it is better than expected. It appears to work fine and although I did intend replacing the rubber grips as they were described as loose they are not as bad or stretched as I thought so I may just put up with them for the time being. All the buttons work okay - who knows how long the shutter will last (maybe it has had a new one maybe it is the original) but It will only get light use so I won't be adding much to the 400k it already has! At £699 I reckon it was worth the risk and if it keeps me going until the D700 replacement is available I'll be happy.

No it won't, there's a £6-700 difference in price and the cameras appeal to different buyers. I doubt retailers will have any trouble shifting the last few at full price.....

Why would it, I mean the difference between a used D700 and a new D800 is 100%. Until the D800 drops to under £2k new and used ones start appearing on the market I can't see it having a downward effect on used D700 prices. If anything it may cause a slight rise initially.....

I can't see D700 prices rising personally. We shall see though....once the D800 hands on reviews are out all will be reavealed!

I don't mean that a second hand one will suddenly go from £1200 to £1700, but they might creep up to around the £13-1400 mark, which is still a grand cheaper than a new D800....

Maybe but given how many people seem to have ordered a D800 I'll be suprised. The only thing that will see D700's hold their value is if the D800 isn't as good at high ISO's IMHO but even then there will be a lot of people trading in D3's and D3s's for the D4 so they will come off in price and force D700 prices down.

Having said that there are a hell of a lot of people looking to buy D700's so they won't go below £1000 for one in good condition for a loooooonngg time.

Of course I am biased because I want to buy an FX body :D
