I was allowed to play with a D700 today......

And i must say I loved it .. Felt good . controls where not as bad as I thought they might have been,,

But the biggest thing was the screen on the back . Very impressed with that.

Dont think I will be changing just yet . But if I did it would be the D700 I think..

Only took me two weeks after my indroduction to the D700 so the words "all" and "just yet" are probably very wise words Dave :)

You can have a play with a 70-200 VR II on the London meet as well if you like ;)
 
If you can afford to do it, do it! OK, probably a rather big step for Canon shooters who are already well stocked with lenses etc but even they (if contemplating a switch to FF while having mainly EF-S glass) should consider the switch (IF THE CAMERA FITS THEM).

Anyone considering getting one and combining it with a grip might consider a D3 instead - comparing the cost (including the EN-EL4a battery(s), charger, grip etc) and weight/bulk might find the D3 a better bet.

I thought that too Dave, until I did some sums :) I checked on ebay for used Canon prices and then went to Kerso for new Nikon prices. I got all brand new kit for less than the cost of a 5DII :)

Ive sold mine 5d2 with all lenses etc...
now waiting to Focus on Imaging hoping I can get a nice deal for Nikon kit over there :)
If not I will PM Kerso :)

main reason is Nikons AF system...



have heard that Canon is planning on releasing 5d3 soon with AF system from 7D...

the d700 is whatim saving up all my pennies for as well. such a beautiful camera.

Another convert here. Sold all my Canon gear, coupla bodies, some L lenses, grips and speedlight.
Gotta D700 with grip, The Beast (28-70 2.8), 70-200 VR1, SB900.
Outa cash but very happy, saving for more gear. Would like but don't need the 14-24

Well at the moment im very close to changing to Nikon. Waiting for a quote from them for D3/D3s,12-24,24-70,70-200MKII and 400 f/2.8

I'm really scared that I will ebd up buying one of them on credit.

Dont imagine you will get much change out 20k there and youll be after 14-24 not the 12-24 that for Cropped Sensors

19,600 :D and dont forget i have my Canon gear in PX, ive priced it up and if Nikon offer similar to October i'll be able to switch without it costing me anything
