Hi guys,

What batteries are you guys using in your D700? Any good third party ones out there? I need to get a couple of backups for my primary one.

Adam

Do you need an extra accessory for the grip to fit those batteries?

if you buy the nikon grip, you need the nikon BL-3 (£30ish), yes.

If you buy an unofficial chinese one, most of them include one. I'm really impressed by the quality of this one, very very well built, and comes with everything you need.

you do also need a seperate charger (absolute cheapest is £25 for an offbrand one, see ebay, though linkdelight do a neat one for £50 that charges both D3 batteries and normal D300 batteries...) for the D3 batteries, so it's not the cheapest option ever... though 8fps is SO nice >_<

if you just want to stick with the normal EN-EL3e batteries, 7dayshop ones are probably a good bet, better than the ebay ones as you have some form of comeback :)

Cheers for that. Does look like quite a bit of an additional cost, could just stick with a few extra batteries in the grip for now.

Is the EN-EL3 battery compatible with the D700? 7day list it for d2000/3000

Adam - I find the official Nikon EN-EL3's last ages and ONLY use the Nikon ones. I consider getting the adapter to allow me to put D3 batteris in the grip instead but I really don't think it's a good financial move. Better to buy two official EN-EL3's imho.

And the D3 battery is no use if you want to shoot without the grip.

Cheers Ryan. I was surprised at how long my official one lasted me yesterday, maybe I should shell out for a proper one. Any idea where they can be sourced for a good price?

How many people have used third party batteries and are satisfied with them? Any from 7dayshop? May order a couple tonight if so.

Decent rechargeable AAs will power a (gripped) D700 nicely as well, I used that set up with my D300 for ages before switching over to the EN-EL4, plus a full set will only be about 8 quid...

Are eneloops the one's to go for? I just want an extra third party battery for now and then when I buy the grip soon i'll invest in some more AA's.

yep. ther 7dayshop own brand 'good to go' ones work fine too :)

Phottix "Titans" work fine, as good as the official Nikon.

Hang on for a moment!!! The EN-EL3 and EN-EL3a batteries are NOT suitable for the D700. You need EN-EL3e batteries for the Dx00 series.
