Yes
I don't want to fork out for Sandisk IV compact flash cards for my D70 if the camera can't process that fast.

Which would be best without over spec'ing?

Ultra II
Extreme III
Extreme IV

I'll not necessarily get Sandisk but I just need an idea of read/write speeds.

Thanks in advance.

I've just recently bought a d70s off a forum member here and it came with a sandisk ultra II in it. When i was playing with the continuous shooting mode it didnt slow down or anything just kept a constant frame rate.

Im gonna get a couple of bigger ones next week they have them on www.play.com for just over a tenner if i recall correctly

The ultra2 is quick enough for the D70. Anything quicker will be a waste of money as the camera will not be capable of getting the best out of them.

I think the card speed is more relevant to data transfer from camera to PC on a D70.
In continuous shoot mode, the camera buffers all images before writing to the card, when the buffer is full the camera stops shooting or slows down a lot as it writes to the card, there could be a slight speed gain there, but I'm not sure it is usefull.
For what they cost, Extreme 3's would be good enough I would have though, if it doesn't help buffer transfer much, it'll still be faster transfer to PC than ultra 2

I've got one Extreme III 2GB and 2 normal Sandisk 2GB's and I can't really tell the difference but then I haven't pushed it with a huge surge of raw images.

As joxby rightly says, the the card write speed will not improve the D70 buffer speed, which is knocking on a bit now so any modern card will probably be at least an order of magnitude faster than the D70 hardware.

That was what I was trying to get at. Thanks for the replies everyone. Muchos helpful!
