looking to buy d610 currently have a d700
is it a good move or not worth the outlay ?

What are you hoping the D610 will give you over the D700?

Exactly! Maybe better low-light, but not as solid in the hand ...

The thing is - that if you don't know the answer deep inside, maybe you shouldn't bother. Now there's a wind-up!

I went from a D700 to a D610 and except for the new sensor (which is v nice) I preferred the D700 in every way.

ONLY if you're in need of the better sensor should you change and even then you should probably look at the D750, who's AF is in the same ball park as the D700 (the AF on the D610 is a backward step from the D700).

The D610 is a nice camera but it doesn't have the 'it' factor of the D700.

edit: also, if portraits are your thing the skin colours of the D700 are much nicer.

I've got a d600 which has d610 shutter and a d700 is my back up! The 700 is better and I actually prefer it

The d610 sensor is really nice. You would notice the difference in terms of general resolution and shadow recovery. Probably a little cleaner at high ISO too.

I quite liked the portability of the d610 when out and about with family or walking about in the hills.

And the last advantage for d610 is the dual card slot which alleviated some paranoia.

Everything else I can think of, the d700 is better. Better feel, better control layout, better af system (much better in fact) etc. I also love the viewfinder curtain for what I do. Missed that on d610.

So, depends what you'll use it for.

well looks like i will be keeping my d700 then

thanks for the replies

thought it being a more modern camera it would have been a step forward but obviousley not

Only in terms of the sensor, that's it.

As above, the sensor is better, ie more MP, better DR, colour depth, and better noise handling so if it's the final image that concerns you and adjustability in PP then the D610 could be a good upgrade. However, in terms of build and AF it's a step back.

I didn't have a d700 before the d600 I had! I was shocked as I expected the d600 to be better as it was newer technology as you thought! I bought it as it www cheap as a back up and used it at a wedding! When editing I was getting mixed up with images as I thought better d range ones would be d600! But they weren't
