D610 Possible dodgy card slot?

I thought I was having issues with SD cards giving up on life but after a few died within a short time frame I was beginning to wonder if it's the slot. Now that I think about it I'm always sure they're coming out of slot 2 although it's not something I've been consciously making a mental note of.

The issue is causing problems during photo shoots as the memory buffer is getting full which has never happened before and means I have to keep stopping and waiting.

Does anyone have any advice on how I can quickly determine what the issue is so I can get it sorted?

I've just been doing some testing here and it seems that it's the memory cards.

I have done some tests, taking two pictures quickly and timing how long it takes to write to them and I have one which takes up to 9 seconds in both slots where the others take around 4 seconds. I also noticed that all my 16gb cards taken about 4 seconds to write whereas the 8gb cards take just over 1 second. They are all sandisk ultra 40mb/s cards. Is it right that they should taken different times like this? The 16gb cards get used the most and are about a year old, is it possible that they could have worn out?
