Would it be worth the upgrade from a D60?

After working it out, it would cost £200 (based on selling my d60 for £320 with kit lens).

Main difference being more focus points, and the ability to use my 50mm with auto focus.

There's currently one in classifieds, which includes 18-135 f3.5-5.6G IF-ED lens, grip, 2 batteries and delivery.

 thanks for any help

Only you can answer that question. How much to do you use your 50mm? How old is the D80? How many actuations?

When you start talking £500+ for a secondhand Nikon you are entering D200 territory. Batteries are cheap, so are MB-D80 grips and the 18-135 is just an okay lens. Coupled with the fact that the D80 is due for replacement and prices are dropping all the time it wouldn't be me.

Don't get me wrong the D80 is a great camera, but apart from the focus points (that does irritate me with the D40-60 line) and the ability to use the 50mm etc you won't really notice any difference. IQ will be pretty much identical.

i had that prolem going from a D40x, after thinking long and hard about it i felt the only way to go was D200 (mpbphotographic have one at £499 now) was the only way to go so i didnt want to upgrade later on (or at least not in the coming 18 months or so at least)

i was really pleased with my choice and would say if you can do the same, you wont regret it

Thanks guys, but i'm still unsure of what to do.... i'm too indecisive

I feel as though I know the d60 really well now, and feel as though I want the next step in the range....

On paper the D80 is superior, and by a large amount. Don't forget the D80 is due to stop production so it'll get cheaper, esp. second hand ones on eBay. You'll find a lot of D80 owners (and I did this!) selling them to upgrade to the D300 while the D80 is still worth something. Best photography decision I've made! :D

Don't think i'm ready for a 200 or 300 yet :( Could get one realistically but i've just about had 7000 clicks on my nikon d60....

What to do

I acctually feel that if you feel your ready for an upgrade then why not?
You wont loose ability, only gain more knowledge...???

If you feel the camera is holding you back already then upgrade, but you might as well get a d200 if you're going to. It's no more complicated than the d80 unless you want it to be. It has many more features but you don't have to use them until you're ready!

I'm guessing if you're feeling hamstrung by the d60 then the d80 is only going to satisfy for a little while before you're ready for something else.

Thats a LOT of shots.

How many of those 7,000 were keepers? If you are shooting 7,000 keepers, upgrade. If not, the camera isn't the problem, so just practise more :)

You can pick up a used D200 for £400ish, just look in the for sale forum.

Better to buy a 200 now than an 80 and end up losing money on that as well when you outgrow it.

Got them ALL on an external HD. Give or take 500

Thanks for the advice guys, if a d200 comes up at the right price, I think i'll be investing :)
