Yes
Found an annoying thing on my D60 when using IR remote shutter release.

You set the camera to use the remote control, stand back and take a couple of pictures. Stop for a few seconds to adjust the subject, go to take another picture the the camera has switched back to manual shutter release. Seems I have about 10 seconds to play with before it switches back.

Is there a setting for this anywhere?

i dont know about a D 60 but assuning i'ts the same as a D 40 or D 80.... in custom setting menu there is , remote on duration ..
default setting is 1 minute but it can be set to as much as 15 minutes.

Yes this is correct, it took a bit of finding. You have to go to the CSM/set up menu and select Full. Then go to the page with remote menu and scroll down a little further until remote on duration (number 17) and set accordingly.
Amazing what you can find out by asking as the short remote duration was getting me very frustrated the other day.

Nice one, I had no idea you could do that, I find the D60 remote release timeout really annoying!
