D5000 interval timer help

Maybe the 5 seconds between may not quite be enough for the cameras long exposure noise reduction ?
When I first got a D5000 i took 250 shots of the clouds but it was 1/250 sec and 1 second interval, that worked ok, but I did forget to turn off the lens VR function, so the images jumped around a lot.
afraid I can't test it now, d5000's gone walkabout with eldest son !

Thanks John, i e mailed Nikon,got a reply saying i should use a 35s interval but this wont work. Anyway think i figured it, Nikons interval timer works so:
i set up for a 30s exposure with a 2s interval and press start.
the shutter is open for 30s during which time the camera trys to take a picture every 2s therefore for every picture i get the camera "trys to take 15 photos".
so to cut a long story short if i set the number of shots required to max(999) i will only get approx 66 photos, 999 divided by 15. Strange

That doesn't make sense.....
However, I think most cameras would struggle to do what you are asking of the D5000. You're not leaving enough time between shots for the camera to 'process' the information. Try doing 1 shot every 30 seconds.....i bet that works fine. Or as a test, try 30 shots at a high shutter speed every couple of seconds. Also your buffer will be filling up and the speed data transfer of your cards will have an impact too.

I know this was a few months ago but I wondered if you had found a definitive answer.
If not, hopefully this will help you or others that come across this thread in a google search.
When setting the D5000 interval timer, if for example you wish to take 15 second exposures with 5 secs between each shot, you have to set the interval to 15+5 to take one 15 sec shot in each 20 secs that pass. Setting it at 5 tells the camera to try to take a new shot every 5 secs so you end up with only 1 in 3 of your intended total number of shots.
I learnt this the hard way when I first started taking startrails and wondering why I was only getting 150 instead of 450 exposures!
