I hope this is a relatively simple question. I fancy buying a flash, probably a Nissin 622. I understand this will do TTL when mounted to my D5000's hot shoe. If I wish to use it off camera, am I right in saying that I can set it up in manual as a 'dumb' slave and use the built in flash to trigger it?

I really want to know the answer to this. I have a d5000 and want to get an external flash setup.
Any recommendations as to what equipment I need to make it work?

Yes, you can use it as a slave in manual mode, triggered, as you say, by your D5000's onboard flash.

Cheers. Much appreciated. Seemed to be some conflicting information on line. I must admit, I'm starting to think about upgrading to a camera with full 'flash commander' control. Slippery slop this photography lark
