they usually get them in Tokyo first - Japan - Nikon - Tokyo - Akihabara, Electronic City

my limited understanding of Japan make me think Nikon's factories are miles (too far to be affected) from the recent earthquakes which were in the very south of the county

The only thing that it would effect is Admin, (well it did with my daughters company at the last quake), if indeed the Nikon offices had been effected by the quake

I'd of thought so, but I seem to remember Sony make sensors in that part of Japan so maybe there are some supplier issues?
 
I went into Wilkinson's in Liverpool earlier and asked about the D500, the chap said they have no idea when it will come out here. :( He said their management keep on asking Nikon for info apparently, but don't get any firm dates. :rolleyes: He also said they had 15 pre-orders, which I assumed was for that store, though I could be wrong.

Nikon have messed this up big time imho. :mad: I don't see what the problem is in giving dates for countries, whilst saying stocks will be low. Saying that, I don't see why stocks are so scarce considering they delayed the initial release to build up stocks. There has been nothing from them for months, and they don't seem to be delivering cameras to reviewers in a timely manner.

I thought it was odd the US getting cameras first before Asia, but if DSLRs are not as popular in Asia, and users in the US being very active in the internet, then they prioritise US users I guess. :thinking: So far everyone seems very happy with their D500s, which is a good sign so far. I'm hoping there will be some in depth dynamic range and noise tests this week. I'm buying regardless, but it will be interesting to see how they have designed the sensor to be.

I think Thom Hogan said in one of his articles that Nikon ship cameras rather than use air freight to save money. I can see how earthquakes could affect cameras that should be en route. Having the extra month to churn out cameras should also be unaffected, unless of course that was not the real reason for the delay.

I remember when i bought my D300s from Harrisons, it was the last one in the store. The next batch that were due in had been delayed due to the Tsunami and had gone up in price by £200. That's what i was told anyway.... maybe they just wanted rid of the last camera to some mug ..... .... erm, hang on..?
 
Sounds like the Nikon 300mm PF no one seemed to be able to get one at first? Must be a lot of NPU people on here so no wait when they arrive?
 
Let's not forget that the initial delay (to late April) was to be able to meet demand.

Not very happy, doesn't look like I will have it in time for my trip to Norfolk next week.

Hopefully it is worth the wait

they had the PF in Japan well before the UK
 
Someone on dpr forums just received theirs from Calumet. Farcical! I've heard nothing at all from Jessops!

If you're still checking dpr forums, quite a few UK people are picking theirs up today or tomorrow. LCE, Greys, Clifton Cameras...I want mine!
 
I called Wex this morning - still saying Late April though acknowledged not a lot of April left. A bit of a farcical situation really.
 
Just been on chat with Wex - their answer was:

"We have a very limited number coming in soon, but not enough to cover the pre orders so it is unlikely you'll see it this week."

It really is ridiculous. The whole reason Nikon delayed the launch in the first place was to build up stock levels to fulfill pre-orders! What happened? I think they should make a statement giving an apolgy personally.

No - we would have preferred Nikon to have been honest and not blamed the delay on having enough time get enough units ready for initial demand.

My order has been in for close to 2 months - I am sure that would count as initial demand as they only changed the delivery date after I had ordered.

Perhaps loads of people got in before you and your retailer isnt getting that many from the initial batch.

Perhaps they did but my order went in before the date change by Nikon.

So - if they said that they needed more time to meet demand then my order was in that batch and should have been counted. How else did they measure demand?

From my conversation with Wex I get the feeling that there will be quite a few disappointed customers this week and no sign of when that disappointment will end.

I will not get it for my holiday next week but I can only hope to have it for early June for my 2 weeks in Scotland.
 
Now I'm angry!

Spoke to Jessops who told me the first batch has come in and gone out. Second batch is due next week and I'm not in it. As it stands, they don't kinow when mine will be shipped as I'm way down the line. I specifically called them before I placed the order to ask if I ordered this late (3 weeks ago), would I still get it on launch. I was told it was highly likely as they had enough stock to cover all pre-orders. She now tells me they're only dispatching orders placed in January at the moment. So looks like I won't get mine until god knows when.
 
Dynamic Range tests are up for the D500. Looks like the D7200 has the edge below ISO 400 and the D500 has the edge from there upwards. The base ISO doesn't seem to have been as compromised as much as feared from the D5 results.

Huge improvement over my D300S, as I knew it would be whatever, so I'm happy. :) Just got to get hold of one now. :( :rolleyes:

Harrison's are showing that pre-orders are in for the body, and showing general stock available with kit lens.
 
To be fair - we all harp on about high IOS performance, but in reality I will not be going out after wildlife if I am going to be shooting at ISO6400 and above.

Some days it is just a case of going back to bed because the light / weather are not up to it.

I want a camera that will lock on to the subject fast and keep locked on. I also want it to shoot as many frames a second as possible as that gives me more chance of getting that perfect pose.

I also want to get as many pixels on the subject as possible.

So, ISO is well down my list.

I haven't seen anything yet in comments / reviews that says the D500 isn't filling my top requirements
 
Looks like Greys have plenty just seen their Facebook post with the pyramid of d500 boxes they build :)
 
Well after looking on the Internet at many of the sample images posted by new owners (not this thread) I've decided I don't need the D500 :)
