D500 - What DID I press?

Out shooting at a park run yesterday. All going well and then a DOTTED GRID appeared around the focus point. The only thing I can think of, is that I pressed the AF/M button at the side along with something else. But I don't know what else I pressed. Had a few out of focus shots. Switch off the camera and the A/F button to manual and back. Any ideas? Can't find the manual, think the Borrowers still have it.

The AF/M button bottom left and the front command/sub command dial when I was changing the aperture.
