I collected a NIkon D5 today form WEX. I have the latest photoshop cc 9.6 version and lightroom cc both fully updated but the files on the xqd card won't open. Any Ideas

Could it be a card problem? Can you open a .jpg from the card, or move files around using the OS?
 
What card and what reader?
 
I've only taken raw files so far as these are the first shots I've taken. The card is a brand new sony xqd card and reader as supplied in the box by Nikon. Photoshop cc and Lightroom cc were only updated last week

Shouldn't be any incompatibility between card and reader then and Adobe Camera Raw is currently 9.6 which includes D5/D500 formats.
 
That's right gramps. I ordered the camera in April and realised that I would have to update my editors so I went with photoshop cc to make sure I had the right gear but no go so far.

Have you tried using both card slots to check it's not a card slot error?
 
I've tried the other slot but the raws are still not opening but a jpeg did

Then sounds as though it's a software issue ... what Photoshop version are you using (not ACR)?
 
I'm using the version that I downloaded from adobe when I took out the yearly subscription and I've kept up with all the updates. When I checked all the updates were current. I believe it's version 9.6

Adobe Camera Raw is 9.6, Photoshop latest should be version 2015.5
Do you have Capture NX-D?
If not download it (free) and see if you can open the files with it.

Your right I do have photoshop 2015.5 and raw 9.6. I Think I'll give adobe a ring and see what they say. Thanks for your efforts gramps.

I suspect you will need to completely uninstall CC and install it again ... there is a special Creative Cloud Cleaner to download and run, wish you every success :)
 
I may have found an answer. I think it's downloading to an older version or Lightroom because there is still two older versions on the control panel list of installed programs. There's Lightroom cc and two more in the list. Can I just uninstall the older ones without any bother?

Yes you can ... check if they are listed in the Creative Cloud Desktop (the red one) and if they are uninstall them from there, otherwise in the normal way.
 
We've cracked it gramps. It was the old versions causing the problem everything is ticking ok now. Thanks for your help, just off to try the camera properly now.
