D40x & Off Camera Flash

I am looking to get either an SB-600 or SB-800 speedlight.

Can anyone clear up if you can use either of these off camera without the need of triggers or cables with a D40x??

AFAIK the D40/40x doesn't do wireless flash yet according to this it does .:shrug:

but look in the built in flash menu & see if commander mode appears if so then yes it does wireless .

Actually I think that page says that only with the sb-800 as a commander on the d40 could you fire another sb-600 remotely.

Thanks for that - cleared that query up.

So, what is the best option for remote wireless flash on an SB600 or SB800? I've heard of ebay triggers, pocket wizards and skyports but not really sure what I need :shrug:

eBay are the cheapest and the worst ones to get. Some people get ones that actaully work but some people get sets which don't work, misfire, don't fire.

Skyports are the newest radio slave on the market. Cheaper than the PW's but still work just as well. Loads of people have said good things about them. I have some as well and they are soo good!! Very good vaule for money.

PW's are the best you can get really but they come at a price!

So basically it depends on what and how much money you have to spend.
