Imagine how reasonable it would have been without the bag or CF cards....£600? :lol:

Glad you got a good deal....now to enjoy your new purchase. :)

It was a nod in the direction of hyakuhei as he's having trouble sourcing one. ;)

I know ;), I had a right game getting one 18 months ago, gave up trying to nab a used one and ended up buying new.

That explanation is a load of ballhooks, the official rate of inflation may only be 1% or whatever, but that takes house prices into account and in some areas they have fallen by up to 30%. Real, day-to-day prices have risen by nearly 30%,so unless you are first time house buyer (in which case you probably won't get a mortgage anyway :lol:), you're worse off.

Well, some three and a half years later, still no D400??

Any guesses as to whether Nikon will release a D300 replacement??

Personally I think Nikon have consolidated full frame into the Dx00 range, and crop frame into the Dx000 range.

IMHO The D7100, when it's released will effectively be the D400 - assuming the D7000 wasn't.

Of course I may be way off the mark, but that's how it looks to me.

D7000 was the D90 replacement I thought?

Trouble is what about an affordable pro style DX body??

OTOH there's still a significant gap between the RRP of the d7000 and d600. This may be a sign that there is something coming along to fill that gap..

D9000 perhaps. To me it would now fragment Nikon's line-up if they were to introduce a crop body with a Dx00 moniker. Given that the D600 is basically a FF version of the D7000 (OK, that's over simplifying things, but the control layout is pretty much the same), I wouldn't be surprised to see a crop sensor pro body layout with a Dx000 moniker.

It really doesn't matter what it's called at the end of the day as long as it fulfils the expectations of the people waiting for the next crop pro body.

Some would argue it's the D800 in DX crop mode. 16MP files at the end, plus you still have a FX option if required.

The 2 issues here are price, you're paying for an FX sensor you don't need/want and also the FPS in crop mode is 6FPS, which is 1 short of the D300s, and 2 short of a gripped D300s with a D3 battery. The same as a D300 however

A D400 looks more unlikely as time goes on. :( I think there is room in the market for a D300S successor, but the best time to announce it, imho, was at the same time as the D600. Doing that, if they keep the same numbering system, would let people know how they sit together in the Nikon line up.

Also, announcing them at the same time would let people know from the starting RRP where the cameras stand in Nikon's pricing structure. The longer the D600 is out before a D400 appears, the closer in price they will be. Of course there is nothing to stop them pricing a D400 the same, or more than a D600, but I think they would like to keep all the model ranges differentiated by price.

By bringing out a D400, I don't think Nikon would be adding any more complexity to their range, as they will have the same number of cameras.

D3000 = D3200
D5000 = D5100
D90 = D7000 or replacement
D300 = D400
D700 = D600
D3X = D800
D3 = D4

A D300 and a D700 didn't confuse the market, so I don't think a D400 and D600 would either. :shrug: If you're spending £1500+ on a camera, you should know what you are buying and why.

It's whether Nikon and Canon think there is a market for a high performance, ruggedly built DX camera. :shrug: If they both think no, then Sony may eventually get a lot of the people who want a camera like that if they can live with their EVF, which you would imagine will only get better. If just Nikon think no, then they leave that market open for Canon with a 7DII if they get the features right.

For the enthusiast, while they may be brand loyal, but they probably value that the camera that does what they want more, and are willing to pay, to a point, not D4 prices though. ;)

The earthquake and tsunami have obviously had an effect on Nikon's plans, but the enthusiast is more likely to spend on lenses and accessories. If they want to let that market go, they will leave a gaping hole for someone else to fill imho. :shrug:

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for a high end DX body with pro build and features. I covered BSB at Cadwell recently and where are a lot of guys shooting with the D300s or the 7D.

I am really hoping Nikon bring out a pro spec dx body soon. I am well over due an upgrade and there is nowhere for me to go at the moment. I currently own a d90 and a d300. At the moment the only way to go is buy a d300s which to my mind is pointless. A d7000 is also out of the question too because it's an upgrade to my d90 back up camera. A d400 with a 16mp sensor would be perfect, I just hope Nikon see it that way.

The other option would be too sell the two bodies and my lenses and go full frame. This would be very expensive......... what's a man to do. ......:bang::bang::bang:

What can you not do with your D300? :shrug:

The prospects for a D400, or a Pro level DX camera increased slightly when DPReview reorganised their Forums last week and made a Nikon Pro DX SLR Talk forum. Seemed a bit silly if there were not going to be a new Nikon Pro DX camera at some point. :thinking:

You could also ask what could u not do with a d3 or d700 when those were replaced?

The d300 is a great camera. But many people will want more resolution of say 20mp and better iso. Add on smaller detail like dual cards etc and there is a good reason to want a new pro dx body.
