D40 Battery grip

So christmas is coming up and i fancy something. Are there any decent battery grips out for the D40?

thanks

To put it simply; No. As far as I know there are no official ones available for the D40/D40X(Ive got a D40X). there are quite a few third party ones about, but the way the D40/D40X was designed, there is no connection for the battery grip to communicate with the camera. This means that you will get the benefit of the grip (improved ergonimics) and increased battery life, but the vertical shutter release is next to useless. It basically treats the grip as a remote control, so you have to go int othe menu and set it as such each time you want to switch from vertical to horizontal.

I wouldn't say don't get one as I find the ergonomics are now improved (and this grip was a cheap one) but beyond that they are pretty useless.

Well you dont have to go into the menu to change it, you can just assign your `fn` button to switch between shutter release options.

And then I would have to go into the menu to change the ISO setting. Id much rather have ISO assigned to fn than shutter release options to be honest.

I looked into these myself and to be honest wasn't overly impressed. MK has kind of summed it up.

Yea - waste of money.

Was looking at one for me D50, came to the same conclusion.

Put the money towards a lens / D200 (which can take a decent grip) :)
