Hi folks

Was out shooting with my D4 with no problems, changed the lens and then lost AF. The red focus box has gone and nothing happens when half pressing the shutter button. Ive checked the obvious things such as AF and M on both body and lenses and both as normal and set to AF, also checked body is set to camera and not video and is correct. Last thing i was doing was shooting on a tripod using a remote shutter release and was working fine, changed lenses and lost AF. Have tried 2 lenses and turned off and pulled battery out but still nothing..

Am i missing something obvious ?

Thanks

Sadly its not L lever : / ive had this issues many times and its always something silly like knocking the AF into M etc but this time i fear its more serious...

Are the lens fully locked? I accidentally unlocked the lens mount with gloves on in the snow the other week and the lens just stopping focusing (still took photos). Clicking it shut again sorted the issue.

Only thing I can think of is that the camera is set AF-On only (BBF) and you forgot? I wouldn't think so though because if it is the camera won't autofocus using a remote release.

Ok now got the red focus box in the view back but still no focus when clicking shutter, still no error message, not set to BBF and lenses locked in ok

Does the MF indicators (arrows & dot) work in viewfinder when manually focusing? Calibrate the battery rather than just charging it - it may be giving a false indication of charge state.

Also clean the lens contacts in the lens mount/body.

yes manual indicators are working fine, will try battery de charge and charge

was showing full charge and still does, ill put it on charge though as worth ago
The only other possibility I can come up with is the lens lock button/pin... if it is depressed at all AF will be disabled (i.e. not extending when a lens is attached or lens not fully seated). I have bent the locking pin to where it binds up before. This could cause the pin and button to remain somewhat depressed (it doesn't take much IME).

While you're looking at it, also check the lens mount screws.
