After much agonising, I took the plunge and this little beastie arrived this morning!

Before anyone monsters me for making an unnecessary purchase, I do actually have a good use for the extra pixels. I do all my own printing on a large format (44" wide) Epson 9900 and have had a number of orders for big prints and canvases recently. The big push for me though is a commercial job early next month where the client wants a number of big prints for his new premises, he's worth impressing and I feel the extra dots was worth bringing the D3X forward for. Hope I'm not disappointed when I use it in anger...

Not had a chance to play yet but will christen it at a portrait shoot on Saturday... can't wait! :D

Now watch, and laugh, as they plummet in price!

I've got my spare underwear ready, just in case they do plummet

Hope you enjoy your new toy :D

Where's EdinburghGary when you need him?!?

Currently Warehouse express have it 500 quid cheaper than the 1DsIII, so not a terrible buy....and Nikon did not put up their prices yet! HAve fun, nice body that.

Well you've just made me feel a lot less guilty for my small 5D2 purchase...have fun with it!:)

Thanks... you too! The 5D2 made me think seriously about defecting for a while, nice camera! :)

Good on you! Enjoy it and I hope it earns you a few bob. If it plummets, so what. Ask me how much my Z4M has plummeted! The most expensive 6,000 miles I've ever done.
No point in worrying about it. ;)
Enjoy the new beast. ;)

Me too - I was thinking of getting a 5dmk2 and a second hand 1dmk2 with some glass, for the same price as the body only.....

But then I came to my senses :D:D:D

Nice one. I keep hovering over the buy button. I don't really need one but it'd make a good replacement for the D700, I don't think I'll ever sell my D3 though

Of course, a congratulations is in order ... but I also have a very strong urge to tell you ...

I hate you  ...

Second.

I've had mine for about 2 weeks but not told anyone :lol:

Too much camera for my talent :bonk::bonk:

... and you too :razz::razz:

You both do realise that what you've confessed to is borderline criminal without showing us some pictures taken with this messy body!

Hmmm good point. I mean I've posted more D3x shots than the both of you combined so far and I don't have one yet

I was considering the D3x but opted for the D3 simply for the shooting speed (I do some motor sports), it is a cracking piece of kit and one which I'm sure will give you many years of pleasure, Enjoy!

Arr but do they have a 17" macbook pro :)

I have just been reading a monster long review of this camera! Wow this is serious technology but even more serious dosh! It will take a lot of sales to recoupe that :) I am hoping that the replacement for the D700 (D700x/D800 or whatever) will have a similar sized sensor! I hope you have glass to do it justice and I too am jealous but let us see some pics

Hi Flashman, I don't envey you as I'm very happy with the camera I've got in relation to my needs. Would like a bit of spare cash for some more glass, though. :'(

Feel really pleased for you, though, because it is a magnificent piece of kit by any standards and, however experienced you are it's always nice to get a new toy. Particularly if you can justify it and it sounds like you have a regular need for super large prints, so good for you! Hope the results impress your new client and lots more work follows. :)

All the best

Took me half a day to open the first test images! Had to fudge it by installing release candidates for LR and ACR. Still, the first look is very impressive... I kept zooming in in PS and the pixels just kept on coming! I'll try and do a side by side comparison with the D3 soon, I'm sure the D3 will blow it out of the water on high ISO noise but the 3X will obviously win on resolution! Be interesting to see side by side shots though.

First paid shoot with it this afternoon, they'd better order some big canvases!! :bat:

Thanks for all the good wishes. :)
