Yes
Further to my last report, I now have wind that the D3x (22-24 mp) is coming next month (5K ish) along with a D compact camera to compliment Nikons summer line up. As ever my source is reliable but I think that they mean a D90 rather than a compact.

Time, as ever, will tell.

D.

Wow 5K, sucks. I was hoping it would be priced juist slightly higher than the current D3, and the current D3 would drop to 2kish.

Going to be more expensive than I would have liked to bite the bullet then!!!

Plus the additional £££££'s for extra PC memory, CPU power and hard disk space! :naughty:

Your hopes are madness, theres no way the D3 (flagship atm) would drop £1400 in 5 months, and the D3x most probably marketing against the 1Ds mkIII, would be £2000 less than its competitor :p

I'm really looking forward to seeing the D90 spec, its defiantly possible to be my next upgrade. I wrote this guesstimate spec back in January..

Same sensor as the D300, 12.3mp, with iso200-3200.
4fps @ 65 JPG
3" Live view screen
Anti-dust system
No weather sealing
£600/£700 rrp

If its similar to that, i may well go for it

Im pretty sure the people that need 22-24mp will be happy to pay the 5K. Good to see Nikon pulling new canon contenders out of the bag

From what I watched,
not necessarily true of course.
D3X
Thats 17.8MP at £3500
And release date looks to be July 2009, not next month

As per the YouTube video for the D3h, it would be priced at $3,900 which is under £2,000! wow .... if so, then that's a great price for that kind of body!

Ah, but wait, the D3 is listed in the US for $5,000 and goes here for £2,870 ... that's an exchange rate of 1.75 USD : 1 GBP. With that rate, the $3,900 would go for £2,228! But then who really knows with how they peg the exchange rate ?!?

don't forgot that most american stores don't list the local state tax you have to pay on stuff so the difference, whilst still considerable, isn't always as massive as it first appears.

Looks like we've got a Nikon rumor mill to rival the canon 5Dll

I highly doubt those Youtube videos are real or true. I also highly doubt that the person who posted them is the director of photography for National Geographic (Im not sure Nikon would be too happy with someone like that breaking the NDA). My best guess is that there will be a D3X, but no D3H. The D3 is the one that's up against the 1DMk3 and the D3X up against the 1DsMk3. Its also highly likely that the D3X will be 24Mp as sony has made a 24MP full frame sensor.

I was going to say that nearly word for word last night but couldn't be bothered to post! :p

The d3 is only 1fps slower than the canon speed king, but it has awesome noise handling making it perfect for sports and journalistic work. Nikon need to release a studio contender for the 1Ds, which is where the Sony 24.4mp sensor comes in.

If that's the case, should I wait for a D90 rather than a D300?

I opted for the D80 over the D200 because they're very similar, doesn't really perform that much less and I put the extra £2-300 on better glass.

Apparently the D3H was the prototype for the D3 but they pulled the H.......

Evidently that video is fake. Shame as it looked awesome.
