Got my D3100 about a month ago, but all you get in the box is a very limited 60 page concise instruction manual. (how to switch on, attach a lens, insert a memory card and brief overview of a few of the functions)
Doing some digging on the Nikon support site after registration you can find a 16mb pdf which is a whopping 200+ page reference manual for the camera. Only downside to this is that you cannot print parts you want from it as printing is totally disabled. Which is pretty crap if you want to read a paper copy whilst playing with the camera.
I logged a support call with Nikon at https://nikoneurope-en.custhelp.com/app/ask asking them if there was a printable version of the online manual available somewhere or if not, was it possible purchase a paper copy from them?
To my surprise and delight they said they'd send me a copy in the post for nothing. True to their word, 3 days later the full 206 page reference manual landed on my doormat.
Big companies can sometimes get a tough ride from consumers, but can't fault Nikon at all on this one.
