Hi, I'm trying to follow Matt's star trial guide - LINK with my d3100. I'm just testing my new Giga T Pro II but when I set my camera to do a 30s exposure with a delay of 1 second the camera cannot keep up with the remote control. My camera is still buffering the first picture.

Is there any way around this apart from making the delay longer? Don't really want to make the delay longer as I will have breaks in the star trials.

Any tips? If it makes any difference, I do use a class 10 SDHC card.

Cheers!

Would second that. Just to be clear, it is long exposure noise reduction that you'll need to disable rather than high iso noise reduction.

At a guess - have you noise reduction turned on ? if so you'll buffer for 30's on a 30's exposure while the noise reduction works . thats my guess

Ah cheers! I'm out of touch with photography at the momet! ;) I made sure VR was turned off on my lens but didn't think about actually turning off noise reduction in camera settings. :cuckoo:

Cheers dude

Yeah, had a year with my olympus e3 thinking, "the write speed on this camera is crap" almost went and bought a 90mps cf card! Until i used my head an considered the average size of a raw file it creates and the length of time it was taking lol
Little dig through the manual there it was, turned off noise reduction and boom! Straight to card lol
Turned on though, it really does make a difference as the four thirds sensors are notorious for delivering some fantastic noise with long explosions. Not sure about the entry level nikons though.

i fell for this aswell.....

I cant believe whenever I've been sat above motorway bridges doing light trials I have been standing there freezing for 30 seconds after each shot waiting to do another.. :D

I've set my remote control to do another shot 3 seconds after the first 30 second shot so should turn out okay.
