D300s memory card differences

I have 2 D300s when I put an 8 meg card in each of them one will show 296 images in raw and the other 385 images in raw if I swap the cards over the first one still shows 296 and the second 385.
I have gone through every menu and set both the camera the same but still no change also the 296 one will only do 2.5 frames per second whilst the other does 7.
Has anyone got any ideas? Please

On the speed front, maybe the slower card has a slow write speed or is a fake and doesn't perform at its max speed?

Only thing I could think of for the capacity differences is one camera has uncompressed or 14 bit RAW? Or however it is labeled on a D300.

I will have a look at that, it is the same if I put the 385 card in the 296 camera it will only come up with 296

I have just changed the NEF (RAW) recording from 14bit to 12 bit and all is well once more
