Anyone know if these work ok together?

Been offered a ridiculously low priced Sigma 135-400 APO DG
lens, shame it's not HSM but can't have everything.

Thanks in advance.

Should work a treat, DG means 'optimised for digital' (but can also work on FF sensors), APO is the dogs danglies glass and the D300 has a built in focus motor so I wouldn't worry about HSM.

Ta very much still getting to grips with all this new fangled digital after almost 3 decades of manual film photography.

just need to check how soft the lens is at 400 and whether it will AF ok with a TC fitted.

The review I've just read suggests that it's soft at the long end until you hit f/8 and over which means you're going to have to shoot high ISO if you're after moving subjects.

I'd be very surprised if AF continued to work with a TC fitted although it depends what TC you are using. The x1.4 will probably be all right, the x1.7 might just work but the x2 usually need f/2.8 lenses to AF

Thank you.:)

spent a long time with MF will be ok with that.

Your post says Sigma D mount. If the lens is a Nikon mount it will work fine, if it's a Sigma mount it wont fit.

Sigma mounts for Nikon are D & H if I remember correctly.

You're right for some odd reason Sigma call the nikon mount a D mount rather than f mount which is silly really.
