Same here, at 9fps does your d300 think your grip is dead after a while?
No it doesn't.
I copied this from another forum which may be of interest....
(I concur with just about everything that has been said. To wrap it up, here are your options:
3e Battery - Use in grip and body and you only have one charger to contend with. Down side is they don't get the shear number of shots you can get with the 4a or AAs, nor can you get the higher 8 fps. 6 fps will work just fine for most people.
4a battery - fine if you already have them, along with the charger. But, you still need to find the BL-3 adapter. None of the stores seems to have them and one sold on ebay the other day for almost $200. That for an item that normally sells for $35.
If you don't currently have the battery and charger, you can look to spend over $250 for the entire package to use in the D300.
You will get 8fps with the 4a. You will get over 2,000 shots with this battery.
AA batteries - battery sled/tray comes with the D300. Using NimH batteries also will get you 8fps and you will also get over 2,000 shots without going to the 3e battery in the body. Buy an extra sled/tray for $20-$25 and you can have an extra tray loaded with batteries that takes seconds to swap out.
I have 24 rechargeable 2700 MaH batteries that seem to last forever. They also fit my SB800 flash. But, I have to have two chargers if I'm going on a trip - 1 for the AAs and 1 for the 3e. When I go on a shoot I take an extra 3e battery with me but I have never used it.
The only downside to the normal AA rechargeables is that they do lose part of their charge over time - more so than either the 3e or 4a. But, there are new batteries on the market that retain their charge for a longer period of time but are around 2000 MaH.)
