Which would people recommend? Looking to move back to Nikon DX as I am not getting on with my M4/3rds camera.

Both are within my price range of approximately £300 for a body.

I will mostly be shooting landscape, also some night time light painting and occasionally portraits of my daughter.

I think for your brief Ian, I would go for the D7000 for the same reasons Dave outlined.

I still use my D300 for shooting sports/action stuff due to its frame rate with the grip fitted, but its dynamic range and noise handling leave something to be desired by today's standards.

D7000 produce better image and can do video. But the handling on the D300 is better then the D7000 in my opinion. I would go for D7000 if quality is priority.

I still use my D300 and it is old but very robust with its sealing and alloy body so it wins out in the rain and dusty damp places etc but from what I have read about the D7000 wins out on the superior technology so it is case of horses for courses, I love my D300 :)

Cheers for the replies, both cameras seem to have there own strengths and weaknesses but looks like the D7000 will be more suitable for my needs

Ive not really had a lot to do in all fairness with D7000 a couple of fellow togs have but didn't keep them for long.
But I have with the D300 and it still delivers images good enough for my needs, plus for me it has a very similar handling to my D700 & D3.
If you shop around you may well pick up a D7100 S/H for around the same money and for me that would be the camera i would search out :)

If it makes any deifference, theres a D300 in the classifieds for about £160.....

I've had a D7000 and I was very pleased with it. Never missed a beat, even with a 18-200mm.

Crazy price imo!!! Great value.

If you could stretch your budget a bit, D700 could be got for £400-450? Still a great camera.
