Recently bought a D300 used and i like the camera very much. I've attached the Nikon 28-70 f2.8 lens on the camera and took some shots. The AF speed, accurate focus and sharpness is all good but when i looked at the data i see some problem.

On the focal 28mm the data shows 38... and sometimes 52mm .....

50mm and 70mm focal seems fine.

I've upgrade the firmware to the latest as well on both A and B to 1.10

Sounds like it could be a problem with the electronic contacts on the lens.
I would try giving them a good clean and see if that helps?
Good luck,

Gary

The thing is the 28-70 f2.8 is fine when i attached it on my D7000 and the exif data is fine and no problem. It just doesn't like the 28mm focal of the 28-70 on the D300.

I've also tried every lens in my collection on the D300 and the exif data read fine. my 70-200 is fine, 35mm, 50mm, 28mm AI and 135mm AI read fine.

I ust don't why it only do it on the 28mm focal on the 28-70 .......

I've try it again on the D7000 to double check to make sure is the lens or is the body but it end up doing the same on the D7000 as well.

only the 28mm focal on the 28-70 not displaying it properly.

Try it on manual focus mode and the exif read fine on 28, 35, 50, and 70.

So it seems only the 28mm focal is wrong when shooting auto focus ........

It doesn't effect focus speed, accurancy, optic but it just bother me when giving me faults info when looking at the exif data. ISO, shutter speed etc is all correct but just not thye focal length on the 28mm.

Could be miles of hear but here goes. Could it be that your using a full frame lens on a crop factor sensor?

I don't think is the full frame lens on crop sensor. My tamron 19-35, Nikon 50mm, Sigma 70-200 and even my AIS prime (from film camera) all work fine.

I may bring it to Calumet near me to get the repair guy to have a quick look.

Wont make any difference, will still read the 35mm equivilent focal length..

No idea on the problem though, very odd.

I know Tom. This problem is very odd and weird in fact. I expect the exif to mess up on all focal range on the lens but it only doing it on 28mm focal. Everything else is fine. I've tested it at least 10 times to confirm is 28mm that causing the problem.

Is just when i looking at the photo in Lightroom or Photoshop it tells me i shot the photo in 38mm or 52mm but it is clearly 28mm .........

Gotta be a fault in the CPU of the lens. Cant see what else it can be

Yeah it could be that, not even sure is it worth spending $$$ to get it repair/fixed.

All my gear is insured so i might as well leave it and use it till it die then consider my option.

Doesn't affect my optic and focus so no worry i guess. Plus i don't use the 28mm often as well.

Not sure is this a fix or not but i certainly can get the 28mm data show up on the 28mm focal.

I realise that when i fully turn to 28mm until i can't turn anymore i get a 38 or 52mm exif data, but when i turn to 28mm then rotate a little bit more back i.e 29mm then it show 28mm on the exif everytime.

Maybe a little glitch on the lens?
