Mark, it might be a good idea to reset it back to factory settings.

To do this press the 2 green buttons together - 1 is by the quality button and the other is by the +/- Exposure Compensation button - for around 3-5 seconds and this should set your camera back to its factory settings.

HTH.

Also take a look at this link....well worth a read.

I'm guessing a reset could help. I have never used the reset but if you go into Menu and go to Custom Setting menu you can reset Custom Settings.

Give that a try first.

I'm sure more knowledgeable people will be along soon.

Good idea Ken, I forgot that one

also check the switch on the lens hasn't been knocked to manual focus

I imagine he changed the mode dial to manual or another mode and the reason the pics were blank is because the shutter speed had been set high, and now youve fiddled with it, the shutter speed has been raised enough to get some light in, but still not enough to have blur free photos.
I suggest you read as much as you can about how a DSLR works, and how to change the settings such as shutter speed and aperture.

Stick the camera into P mode for now,and you should find you'll get a decent ish picture out of it, as the camera weill be choosing the appropiate settings. If its too dark inside thoiugh, you still may get blurry photos, as the camera will select a slow shutter to get enough light for an exposure.

Blank as in white? It could be that the Exposure Compensation has somehow been pushed to +5.0.

Rgds

I found it was a steep learning curve working through all the possible settings but found David Busch's book on the D300 easier to understand than the manual. Could be a good purchase. Linky

Yep can definitely recommend the David Busch book. I bought one for my D5000 and when I got my D300s the first thing I bought was his D300s book.

You wont be disappointed Mark, enjoy your camera.
