Hi all,

In low light situations, my hot shoe mounted flash (jessops 360 AFD) on my nikon d300 - used to emit a red 8x8 grid light visible to the eye to help the camera Autofocus. Now it doesn't and I cant seem to replicate this.

How can i force my /flash to do this?

Also, the AF assist light on the D300 doesn't always kick in, any ideas why?

iirc the focus light and ir focus light only work when the centre focus point is used. I cannt remember if there is something to do with the focus mode aswell, I have a nagging thought that it has to to on single and not continuous.

Yes, I think AF assist only works in single focus mode, not in continuous (otherwise it would need to be on all the time)

OK just checked - definately only works on single focus mode, and if you're using single focus point, only when the centre focus point is active. Any other focus modes (3d etc) it works.
