D300 Black Sopt In Pictures Please Help

Dangermouse

I understand but it would still be nice to use the on-board flash when you need it

Thanks again everyone :)

Yep that is the same as mine

Can someone tell me why they bother making a lens that can shoot at 24mm if you cannot actually shoot at 24mm with the on-board flash without having shadows in your pictures?

Good question, kind of!! But I get what you're saying.
My answer for what it's worth is that on board flash is not really worth a fart.
Sure it may come in handy at times, but when you buy a pro D-SLR (I'm talking Nikon D3X or Canon 1Ds etc) they don't even have an on board flash.

The real/proper way to flash is with a flash gun, or better still a lighting kit (umbrella's etc.......)

And secondly, it's pretty much all down to the physical length of the lens. A 24-70mm F2.8 needs to be that long.
You'd get the same problem with a telephoto zoom of any kind I'd imagine......

BINGO!! I have an idea! You send me your 24-70, I will send you my 18-70, which you can use with onboard at any lenth, no shadows! :woot: :D ;)

Have you got a nifty fifty you could use for general our of the bag shots

Or better still get to know the white balance settings and play around with the kelvins to get colours correct with slower shutter speeds and higher iso so you dont need flash at all

I wouldn't think that there are still people around who know about "The Shadow"

I used to enjoy some of those old comics.

I get the same problem with my a200 and the sigma 10-20mm using the pop up flash.

And you still want to use the pop-up? :bang:

I must admit the pictures that come from the 24-70mm lens are absolutely amazing but that said when you have that attached plus the SB-900 and the weight of the D300 you need arms like Schwarzenegger just to hold the thing up :lol:

Ok guys where i am its almost 1am Soooo..... Thanks for everyones help and have a good day and hopefully i will post up some pictures soon ;)

Regards :)

and forget flash use wb and kelvins for more natural looking light.....god I love kelvin lol

Oh and if anyone does want to give me their opinion on these they are still welcome

I viewed this link and agree with the concensous at the time that your studio flash shots were a promising start, even if they needed a little work. Ten times better than anything you could get with the pop-up, though. Best thing you could do with the built-in flash is superglue it shut!

Best thing you could do with the rest of your gear is take it to a studio photography workshop. I went on one at Kaz Studio in Rayleigh, Essex last year and at £100 for the day it was fantastic value. You'd learn how to really use your kit and I'd thoroughly recommend it. Search on Google for a studio in your area that provides this service. :)

And on Andys and Flashs thought I leave this thread......before I get a thump from you know who:shake:

:lol::lol::lol:

This thread is like a week late surely!!??

The only thing the pop-up flash is good for is to act as the commander for your SB900 when you have it off camera. But then you already have Pocket Wizards, so you may not want or need to use the CLS.

Or even easier....take the mode off of Auto! If you must have assistance stick the camera into P Mode...at least the flash will stay where it belongs. Down!

It's a rare thing in our universe, but this is a Black Hole.

All light matter will be drawn towards it and be sucked in.Do not use a bigger flash or shoot after dark.
Whatever you do ,do NOT move any closer to it as we will not see you again..................................................................Hello ?

Hello ? Oh damb , another job for The Shadow.........:D:D

How did this thread get to 3 pages? :bang: :bonk:
