I've read a few threads about this, but I'm still a bit confused. Recently the stock eyecup (well, bit of rubber) on my D300 broke. Having wanted a round eyecup for a while, this a perfectly good excuse to get one.

So what is the best way to get a round eyecup on a D300? Am I right in thinking that doing it with Nikon parts, I will need;

DK-3
DK-22 adapter
FM2 eyepiece

I can find the DK-3 and DK-22 here in the UK, but not the FM2 eyepiece. Any ideas for UK sources? Does the FM2 eyepiece include glass, or does it just sandwich the DK-3 and DK-22 together? Does this setup vignette or cause any problems?

Are there any cheaper or easier alternatives out there? I know there is the hoodman option, but I ideally want a fully round eyecup, not an elongated one.

Is there a way to get a round, magnified eyepiece on the D300? Is magnification worth it? Does this cause any vignetting, or do you just see the viewfinder on a larger piece of glass?
 
I was really tight and put a Canon A series SLR rubber eyepiece on my D(0, it fits pretty tight and does the same thing and cost me 99p on ebay. I brought it for my AV1 originally but tried it on my nikon and its handy.

Im a tight arse *** lol
 
I remember you asked me about this. These are the two I use together on the D700, but not sure if they fit on the D300.

Not much information about it, but the few comments and reviews on it I have found have all been positive. So I have bitten the bullet and ordered one from Taiwan. :thumbs:

would you mind updating this thread when you've received it? id be really interested to see how it works out. i had a round eyecup on my d2x and d2h and would love one on me d300

No, the DK-17M won't fit onto Nikon bodies that don't have the round viewfinder. For more of the crop Nikons you need the DK-21M - no idea if you can stick a cup on it though!
