[S1]Yeahhhhhhhh I can join in this[/S1]

erm its a 18-200dx vr (just read the box) :D

Nikon 18-200mm 1:3.5-5.6 G EO VR DX
I find this a versatile lens and focal range that means I'm not for ever changing lenses.

Nikkor 18-105 DX VR. Most of the time, or 50mm 1.8. This will probably change in the next few weeks to the 35mm latest purchase!

:plusone:

Or it used to be before I got a Nikon 10-24mm. Now it alternates between the two 50/50.

I use either the 50 1.4 or the 35mm 1.8.

Today thats the fastest widest lens i have for small low light situations

Nikon 18-135mm for out and about landscaping and Nikon 70-300mm VR for wildlife.

I think the camera body is irrelevant when asking what lens is on the front of it. What is more relevant is the kind of photography you do.

I have 2 D300 bodies and I tend to have a 50mm on 1 and the 70-200mm on the other. Unless I'm just using the 1 body as a walk about when it has the 17-50mm on it.

I tend to shoot people!!

A re assuring spread, very much dependant on the type of photography, which is what I would have expected.
The reason for asking (such an open question) was really more biased towards which manufacturer and Nikon seem to be winning. They will be pleased! and no I don't work for them.

Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR

Although, more recently for personal projects, the Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6.

When I had the 16-85mm VR, 70-300mm VR and 50mm it was the 16-85mm 90% of the time.

Since I had them all nicked :( and have only got the 16-85mm as a replacement, it is still that, but now 100%.

Either the Nikon "beast" 28-70mm 2.8 or if I shooting the "tits" in the garden then its a Nikon 70-200mm 2.8 VR (but not the MKII)

I used to have the Nikon 24-70 f2.8 but after buying a Nikon D700 I could what a waste of time it was having a FF lens on a DX Camera so I keep the Nikon 18-200 VR on the D300.

Sometimes I do put the Nikon 70-200 f2.8 on if I need that extra reach from the crop sennsor.

90% of the time 300mm 2.8 other 10% 400mm 2.8.

Lives in the bag with a 70-200 attached.

Have you used the 200-400 with TCs? im seriously tempted by it if it works well with the 1.7 or 1.4.

Andy yes with both,

with 1.7

with 1.4

It AF's fine with either TC, what I have found is at long distance and full zoom image quality can drop slightly, my 500 prime is better in this regard, however it is only when pushing it and trying to crop an image of a bird too much it becomes evident.

This is a really hefty crop at a fair distance using the 1.4, (down from 4000 to 1000 pixels width)

It is such a flexible tool, with a minimum focus distance of 2m it gets a lot of use for butterflies and dragonflies, it retains that minimum focus distance even with the TC's

No TC

I had intended to sell it once I got the 500mm, however it is that useful through the summer when the butterflies and dragonflies are about, I kept it.

Thanks for those Martyn  some thinking to do i think the 200-400 could be perfect especially for a planned trip to Norway for the Sea Eagles. When you went for the 500 did you look at the 600 too?

Sorry op for taking this a bit off thread
