Has any one successfully rigged up some kind of power supply for their nikon via the in car charger? Im trying my hand at star trails and after about an hour thats my lot from 1 battery. I know with a grip I can double that but Id rather have the choice of plugging it in to the car so I can keep nice and warm and keep the camera going. Ive got a laptop charger that runs from the car charger and gives varying DC outputs, just wondering if that could be chopped about. Or open to any other suggestions....
thanks
Steve

Good question, and I guess the answer is providing you can find a plug that fits and an adaptor which provides the correct voltage then it should technically work.

I'm not sure I would want to risk the electronics though, unless the voltage regulator is extremely high tolerance. I could see Nikon rejecting a warranty claim if you powered the camera from a non authorised source.

Having said that, people use non Nikon batteries all the time...

You could keep an eye out on Ebay for the genuine power supplies and run one of them via an in car invertor?

i heard somewhere that keeping the shutter open for long periods of time causes damage to the sensor? could be wrong but worth looking at. Something to do with heat i think..

but i could be wrong
