I seem to be having issues with the white balance on the D1X. When it's set in auto mode with no compensation either way shots taken during daylight outside are coming out with a blue or cool tint whereas shots taken indoors are coming out with a redish or warm tint.

When I use dedicated white balance settings the white balance is spot on. I've read that the auto white balance of the D1X only works between a specific (smaller?) colour temperature range and wondering if this is what's causing the problem? Or is there something else I'm missing?

Now I'm finding auto sometimes comes out spot on and sometime not - depending on how the camera feels and pays no attention to my wants. My Canon doesn't do this and works the same way every time!

Conclusion; obviously my Canon is a boy and my Nikon is a girl :shake:

Your results seem to be the norm with the D1X - the colour gamut on my D2X is similar, and I rarely use AWB. I have learned to mistrust it, so I always use WB appropriate to the conditions, and the result is much better.

If you use AWB, it's very easy to correct the balance in PP, particularly if you shoot in RAW.

Did you get the battery problem sorted??, and how are you getting on with the camera?? I respect the D1X, it's a very capable bit of kit.

Did the full discharge and recharge of the two batteries and they seem to be lasting longer but haven't seen how many shots I can get with each one because.....my two new batteries arrived yesterday from the "fatherland"! :D

All booked up from tomorrow through to Sunday but come next week I'm out for some play time! :)
