Having had a full D70 set up when they first came out (Nikon 12-24, 24-120 VR & SB800) I was really disapointed with the results I was getting - personally I blamed the photographer!!
I have since sold all the above apart from the 24-120 VR and gone back to basics with a F100 with a 50mm 1.8 AF and started from scratch with B&W and thus far am really pleased with the results.
However, I am missing the immediate view of a digital and am thinking that a cheap (£200) digi would be a good backup...
Looking at the usual suspects, fleaBay seems to be pricey and certain outlets are doing the D100, D40x and D70 all in the same ballpark.
I was leaning towards the D40x due to it being a recent model, but I'm wanting to pair with the 35mm F2 AF lens which supposedly won't work with the D40x due to the lack of internal an AF motor (body or lens!) - however I am happy to manually focus as long as all the fancy metering works.
The D100 is a totally unknown quantity (many seem to 'diss' it due to the age, and the D70 is known but is 'tainted' through my previous experience (yes, I do realise there is nothing wrong with the kit, it's down to the
pressing the button)
I have handled the D40x and appreicate the lack of size and weight - lens compatability is the ONLY drawback in my eyes.
D100 experience would be appreciated!
I cannot stretch to a D80 so please do not suggest it!!
Cheers
