D-Day Pictures Then And Now

Love them, especially showing such an event like that. Shows exactly how it is now compared to the devastation back then, and some people think that nowadays is a struggle.

Helps to bring home the courage and sacrifice that so many made for us.

Visited the American cemetery at Colville-sur-Mer overlooking Omaha beach a few years ago. Walking past the lines of over 9000 gravestones really brings it home to you just how much we owe to those who fought and continue to fight for us.

The most beautiful place and a fitting tribute to those soldiers.

Really?

I think you have missed the point

No. I haven't missed the point. I made no comment on the sacrifice made by the men who took part in Operation Neptune and Overlord. My point was that, in my opinion, the then/now photographs, and their treatment, was better in the Guardian than the Huff Post.

There is definitely something wrong with the photograph in the streets of Caen, as is the one in Weymouth. I'm not saying that they are not the same streets. But when you compare them with the effort made by the Guardian to get the same perspective, and exactly the same viewpoint they are definitely lacking. The pic of the beach beauty could have been taken on any beach anywhere and Photoshopped in, and the same with the following one. Having said that, the first few from the Huff Post are quite good, and moving. However, I do think that overall the Guardian ones are better.

And this post just proves that you did indeed miss the point... entirely
