CYMRU AM BYTH

I'm not disagreeing with you, and whilst some are saying that if the French couldn't win against a team of 14, it can equally be said that if the Welsh had taken advantage of clear opportunities they wouldn't have lost, even without their skipper.

Agree on the opportunities that we squandered. Hook's missed kicks are shocking for an international player. Halfpenny you can agree was a difficult shot from that distance. Jones conversion attempt, slightly difficult to nail close to the touchline. Mike shouldve tried to get it closer to the posts. Poop happens i guess.

What about the actual impact shot? He landed flat on his back. Commom sense was all that was needed in Sam's case.

They made a good point in the commentary on this issue. What about line outs where you challenge the opposition throw and the catcher lands awkwardly on his upper back/neck as a result of a challenge to the lineout? surely the challenger should be red carded going by todays logic?

As far as I'm aware you aren't allowed to tackle a player while he's in the air, so the situation shouldn't arise. We all know it does happen, and it is usually penalised. If the foul play was dangerous then the ref should send off the offender. Remember, it doesn't have to be deliberate to be dangerous.

Anyhow the ref in question badly officiated at the 2007 final, has a French father, French name so how on earth was he an unbiased ref - no way should he ever ref a French match again

You are allowed to challenge, but not wrap your arms around the catcher. Many players do and as a result, sometimes the catcher falls on their upper back/neck, legs above the waist, therefore a red card offence if they are penalised. Nothing different to what Sam did.

Letter of the law and all that

Scenario 'B' perfectly describes Warburton's tackle, therefore a red card was the correct decision. It's only good fortune that the French player isn't a quadriplegic or even worse. Warburton certainly didn't 'return the player safely to the ground' as required by the rules.

I suggest you review the footage of the tackle ,the player was released ,therefore a firm word from ref followed by the yellow card and a trip to the sin bin . The tackled player was relatively unhurt and i see this as an over exuberant caught up in the moment decision by an experienced referee . Very harsh on one of the stars of the 2011 RWC

Another point made today in the TV coverage, there have been far more serious tackles of this nature proceeding this game that were unpunished .

Exactly. I think it was either before, or not long after the sending off that Charteris was hit, taken off his feet and landed back first on the ground. Nothing against the French player. Consistency for this world cup has not been a key word.

Seems everyone at rugby was watching this match yesterday, our opposition felt like emulating Warburtons's tackle many times :(

Anyone else excited about the rugby this morning? Come on boys...

Needs a comma just after the on - makes a huge difference to the meaning!

Was such a tense game! Just a pity about Wales missing the conversion and Halfpenny was so close with that penalty but it was quite a distance!

Can't blame Wales though. They played really well and the red card was very unfortunate. Was no way a red card.
