Anyone else excited about the rugby this morning? Come on boys...

Rugby? ... What rugby??

I am now...c'mon Wales, was a bit underwhelmed all week but you can't beat the sight of a packed stadium and the Welsh choral voices.

Did that tackle warrant a red card or should it have been just the yellow?

Neither.

They are French, the game was invented so that we can just hit Frenchmen legally:thumbs:

That's an evil thing to say about the cheese eating surrender monkeys:thumbs:

It was barely a yellow, definately not a red !!! Pressure is really on us for the second half now, what a win it will be if we pull this off :)

What a second half it will be ! Pressure is on, man wrongly off the pitch and down three points. I can feel the stress from here.

Allez les blues

I don't think it should have been a red. Should have been a yellow

Shall we try and keep the rugby threads in one.

and oi! You don't hear me called the Welsh anything, so less of the cheek please

I got nothing else left to cross for them Ryan

How close was that penalty shot from halfway by halfpenny :-(

Devastated, though we played a fantastic game.

Simply robbed, my French flat mate agrees that the welsh should have won. The ref killed the game with the red card. We played a bloody good game and would have been an amazing victory.

The ref deserves a bullet!

Hey ho, come on the blacks.

I wanted to see Wales do well as (having lived in Swansea and Tonypandy) I've friends who it meant a lot to.

Oh well - so close yet so far.

I feel for the Welsh. Warburton did not deserve to go off and yes, the might well have won it if not for that. But I am a little bit happy that the French won

Surprised they didn't try to work a drop goal in that final passage of play or were they hoping that France conceeded a penalty ?

So that's the Welsh gone then, just the French to go :D

At least paddy power have been kind enough to refund all bets placed on Wales so those welsh that chose to bet wont be robbed twice in a single day.

was on the golf course, so missed it. From what I saw of the tackle, not even worthy of a Yellow really - a word in the ear, but it seems that killed it off there and then.

Playing 60 mins with one less man, I think Wales did very well. Shame about the missed conversation and a couple of missed penalties.

Hopefully, NZ will get through to the final and win it now. Anyone but france!

I have to agree with the red card. It was a dangerous tackle which could have caused a broken neck. The talking heads in the studio tried to mitigate the tackle by saying Warburton let go of the Frenchman in mid air! They ignored the fact that he then landed upside down on the back of his neck/upper spine with his head bent forward on his chest.

Not only should he have been sent off, he should get a lengthy ban as a warning to others.

Looking forward to seeing the French torn apart in the final

. A red was to harsh. It evidently was unplanned and as soon as he realized it was turning out that *** he stopped( or let go) and Tried to bring him down safely

For the final France's record is rather good against the southern hemisphere in the world cup

That was not !!! a red card tackle ,there was no intent other than to stop the opposition which he did so with a controlled tackle (sweet )Gravity was the enemy for the welsh captain (what goes up must come down). Ref was way too quick with his decision IMO .And as for banning the guy for the tackle ,never read so much tosh my life.

Can't wait to watch NZ all blacks game ,sparks will fly ......

So clear is the International Rugby Board (IRB) stance on 'dangerous tackles' that he has little reason for complaint. Determined to rid the game of one of its uglier elements, the governing body have issued repeated directives on the subject that offer little room for movement. The three options open to referees "when a tackler horizontally lifts a player off the ground" are as follows:

A. The player is lifted and then forced or 'speared" into the ground. A red card should be issued for this type of tackle

B. The lifted player is dropped to the ground from a height with no regard to the player's safety. A red card should be issued for this type of tackle.

C. For all other types of dangerous lifting tackle it may be considered a penalty or yellow card is sufficient.

Scenario 'B' perfectly describes Warburton's tackle, therefore a red card was the correct decision. It's only good fortune that the French player isn't a quadriplegic or even worse. Warburton certainly didn't 'return the player safely to the ground' as required by the rules.

He was returned to the ground on his back, short of putting him back on his feet and waving him on his way, what else is any player supposed to do?

He didnt drive him into the ground, he didnt upend him so that he landed on his neck/head. option B doesnt apply to this tackle, option C at the very most.

Look again. He lands upside down on the back of his neck and upper spine, with the full weight of his trunk and legs acting downwards on it.

Shame it had to end in close defeat, i wanted Wales to win as my great uncle played rugby for Wales in the 1920's.

So not a red card - every rugby player I know agrees with that one - at worst it was a penalty and yellow card ... the ref completely ruined a great semi and probably a great final against the all blacks. If the all blacks get through to the final then they will steam roller over France - if the French couldn't overpower 14 men then they have no chance.

I am pretty gutted today - though not as gutted as my rugby club mates who are currently paralitic and lying on the floor

What about the actual impact shot? He landed flat on his back. Commom sense was all that was needed in Sam's case.

They made a good point in the commentary on this issue. What about line outs where you challenge the opposition throw and the catcher lands awkwardly on his upper back/neck as a result of a challenge to the lineout? surely the challenger should be red carded going by todays logic?
