Hi everyone

I'm planning a cycle tour next year taking in Holland, Belgium, Northern France and possibly Luxembourg as well.

I'll be using a mixture of trains, ferries and cycling to get from place to place and planning on taking my camera with me too (visiting places like The Hague, Bruges, Lille, Amiens, Ghent, Amsterdam, Zaanse Schans). I'm not loading the bike up with loads of panniers, probably just some front ones and a bar bag to try and keep things lightweight. I'll be stopping at least one night in each of my stopovers (probably two in Bruges and Amsterdam). I'm hoping to mix things up with some night time city shots, candid street stuff and some landscape work too.

This is where things get tough(ish). I'm not 100% on taking my current camera with me (Canon 5D3) so debating taking something smaller. It's going to be the first of a few trips I have planned for next year and 2018 as well so don't mind picking up another second hand camera as I know I'll be using it again.

Has anyone done any cycle touring with a camera? Did you take your main camera or get something smaller and lighter?

No I haven't but wouldn't fancy it with a 5d taking up all the space :)

SLR is too much hassle when travelling at all these days when affordable alternatives are almost as good 90% of the time.
That's without the constraint of the weight and bulk on a bicycle.
Even a phone would be adequate most of the time and you'd have that anyway I expect.
I'd take my Canon S100, I think one of the worst things about taking a large camera on a bike is the hassle and disincentive of needing it packed away to some extent rather than in your pocket.
Then there's the security aspect which means you'll be carrying it about almost constantly when you don't even need it.

I've been thinking about something along the lines of an OMD-EM5 or a Fuji of some kind (now I wish I still had my X Pro1). Maybe even an A7 if I can find one cheap enough.

I'll probably won't be taking many shots when I'm on the bike so it being packed away is fine. I'll be mostly using it at stopover points in cities/towns unless I spot something really amazing that I have to take a photo of!

EDIT - 4WD just had a look at your Flickr page, looks like we live in the same area.

The canon m3 could be a option. The kit lens goes a little wider than most which would come in handy for landscapes. Under £400 with cashback.

I take a camera with me on local rides. Sony RX100 Mk1 - it fits in a bottle bag on the headset so is always easy to hand.

Would never take the 60D - it's just too big and heavy and the iq isn't that much better.
