cw318is's Photo 52 only 7 shots to go!

My reshoot for Week 16. Originally I thought I'd redo trio, then decided on finish instead and use my other hobby as the subject;

Week 16 Reshoot - Finish by cw318is, on Flickr

My airbrush, capable of giving the best finish possible and the paint which I think also gives the nicest and most accurate finish - Vallejo (I just wish the colour range was bigger!)

Stunning colours.

Looks like you had a really shallow dof as parts of the parrot are oof.

I'd like to have seen the full tail.

Looks much better via Flickr...

Lovely, is he or she yours? A friend on mine has an African Grey Parrot.

Like Andy said, would have been nice to see the whole tail, but other than that nice shot.

Hiya Caleb,

Indeed a lovely shot and fits the theme well. Agree with the others about the tail feathers, but other than that a great photo.

Cheers

Dawn :)

Hi Caleb

you've caught the colors in the Macaw really well & it def fits the theme , same as per others re the tail but great shot none the less

It doesn't get any more tropical than this shot lol. As has been said, lovely bright, vibrant colours & I like the shallow DOF. Well done.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Its not my parrot, and to be honest its a bit battered and missing some of its tail. I went for the shallow dof, saturation boost and left the tail off deliberately to try and protect its dignity!

Now thats a just superb shot a a really good take on the theme

Power. Bit of ambiguity with this one. Decided my Impreza should definately feature so was thinking about which bit to illustrate power. Mines quite a powerful one but at the moment I can't put any of that power down due to a shot gearbox, and in the same moment this idea came into play......

Week 18 - Power by cw318is, on Flickr

As I've also just posted my Week 16 reshoot I've now caught up again. Woot!

Hi, Caleb, well composted photograph.

But, I'd like to see the word Impreza in some way, as to me it's just a gear stick.

Also, is that a plastic bag lower left?

Cheers.

Hiya Caleb,

Had a feeling the Subaru would feature in this one :D

Nice shot of the gear knob and indeed fits 'power' well .... I would have taken a pic of my scooby, but probs not as powerful as your Impreza (although might be now if you have a shot gear box .... sorry to hear that).

Cheers

Dawn :)

thanks for the feedback, although I'm not sure if I've done well to compost a shot?

If it said Impreza on it, it would still be just a gearknob. It actually says MOMO on it (you can see it on the right) and nothing else - kindof a link there, MOMO, race prep, power etc etc.

And yes that is a bag in the lower left, dunno why I didn't spot that before might quickly clone it out. Just checked and that one had 6 M4 flange nuts in it. The car is currently full of all sorts with bits missing, new bits waiting to go on, small fasteners safely "stored". The gearbox was a convenient reason to take it off the road and completely rebuild it. I've got a fully refurbed gearbox sat in the garage waiting to go in it. I'm sure it'll be back on the road one day - I last drove it in February 2008, since then all 9 points I got with it have come off my licence :naughty:

Nice... And since you have one (even with a shot gearbox) how about a compsite shot... or that trey.. uh... triple shot pic?

Engine, exhaust/name on rear, and may be across the steering wheel to gear lever? not sure, but you have a host of different shots you could have :D

Anyways, nice shots for tropical and power, and finish reshoot is lovely!

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. And on to this week. Divide, split, slice..........

Week 19 - Divide by cw318is, on Flickr

Ideally I would have used an orange or something but being a devout carnivore I didn't have any and I thought a sliced cow was a bit too Damien Hirst.

Hiya Caleb,

Great idea for the theme, nice DOF and sharp image, although the horizontals are off alignment.

Please tell me what it is that is being divided there ..... is it an olive, green grape .... or a green boiled sweet  Think the image would have looked better slicing something else ..... like a nice piece of meat :D

Cheers

Dawn :)

its a grape - the only thing I could find to slice! Thinking about it it would probably work better without the grape. Hmmmmmm.

Re the horizontals. They are actually only a couple of degrees off (look at the bottom of the shot). With the background its just the angle. Its a tiled wall that I angled away from because of flash bounce and stuff. Its just the perspective of it looks like its angled away. I thought it added a weird extra dimension, but not sure it works.

Hiya Caleb,

Well at least I got it right 1 in 3  Not a good choice for slicing subject .... hey on thought a Strawberry would have be fab for the shot .... they are normally associated with the heart ..... so it could have had a double meaning .....hmmmm now there is a thought.

As for the waffel look of the background .... which I like  I did compare it to the horizonal of the board, but as there are more horizontal (and vertical) lines in the background ones eye is drawn away from the horizonal reference point (and actually for me .... find it quite distracting ... but then that may be my OCD kicking in ).

One thing I forgot to mention earlier is that I really like the shadow of the knife on the background .... gives it a certain 'thriller' appeal ..... a couple of movies come to mind

Great stuff though as this image has really got my mind working

Cheers

Dawn :)

Hi, Caleb, that's quite a graphic image there.

If you crop it to an inch or so below the handle, this also works quite wel..

BTW....:bat: for beating me to this take on the theme, but I'm going ahead with my take on it...:D

Cheers.

love the paradox pic and idea

and agree on the bokeh on the southern comfort bottle, very nice :0)

Hi Caleb, that pic is a bit scary. Keeping thinking: am I next?

Seriously, a really imaginative take on the theme and a well executed to. I like the darkness both literally and metaphorically.

Nothing to add to previous people's crit.

Thank you for all your comments, personally I think the initial subject - the grape - kindof lets the image down as after processing it looks like an afterthought. I should have perhaps used an orange or something bigger. I like how there is a broad mix of opinions though, some like the bg, others think it detract etc. Some great ideas and thoughts coming out of it and I'm just thankful everyone is taking time to look and review my shots. Thankyou all!

And on to Week 20 - and possibly the hardest shot I've ever taken!

Week 20 - Promise by cw318is, on Flickr

A very light hearted take on estate agents and what they promise when viewing houses in the hope of getting a sale- It's a lovely area, nice and peaceful, this house will be a great investment etc.

Not that I'm against all estate agents, or detest them with a passion, or want to push them out of moving trains.........

Hiya Caleb,

Indeed a great take on the theme. The mono conversion works well and nice DOF too.

Well done

Cheers

Dawn :)

Thanks for the comments everyone. To date its been the hardest shot I've done in my 52 - took over 30 attempts to get the focus right and stand in the right place!

Well done, I've just seen your thread and take on Promise, and realised I have shot the same thing. So Kudos to you for beating me too it. This is another reason why I need to do a re-shoot at some point.

Good execution of the shot, and the B&W works well. Not sure that an estate agent needs to cross his fingers, as it is a given they all lie LOL ;-)

Rgds

Week 21 - Twisted by cw318is, on Flickr

Twisted, braided hoses twisted around the prototype Concorde's nosegear at Duxford. The Harvard in the background at the top is bright yellow so I had to blend over a desaturated layer.
