Never used one but I would imagine non-reciprocating and slow. I would think that you would have to cut through the glazed side on the down stroke, so you may have to cut upside down. (unless it's a grinding blade)
But from my experience of Bosch jigsaw blades, they tend to cut the opposite to other manufacturers

I use one of them (or something that looks very similar) as well as a DIYer, though they aren't much use if you want to cut a square out of one corner to go around a socket. I've got a thing with a bed, built in motor underneath attached to an evil blade for corners and tiles that can't be snapped (e.g. slate, which is what I put down on the floor).
Of course, I could have just paid a tiler to come and do it all, buy where's the fun in that?

Just drill a hole to get the blade through.
The best drills are Marcrist, but the Erbauer ones are pretty good and cheaper.

Pretty easy to use couple of negs was it was messy with the water cooling bath and scale only marked on one side so got to take a bit more time adjusting guide.

I use a similar wet tile saw on site, never use the guide though - it's in the garage somewhere 
If you take the guard off you can cut through the back of a tile to make cutouts for sockets etc, but it is very messy. Drill a few holes first to see where the blade is.
I've used this method for cutouts for inserts like a glass mosaic tile. Accuracy is critical for a good result.

Thinking about it you are probably right, could have just marked the tile and guided it by hand.

Use a tile cutter - either the score and crack variety or a wet disc cutter. If I have a small / intricate / odd shape to cut, then a tile saw works well - just take your time and ensure the underside of the tile is very well supported...
I have used both types of tile cutters/saw in the past, and I think that it can make a difference on certain materials. If you have marble or travertine tiles, then cutting them with a jigsaw could end up with you breaking a lot of them - I would only use the "wet" electric cutter for these. If they are standard ceramic, then I would use the manual cutter - see Ken's post #3.
