this is something that has always tickled my fancy but what i don't like the idea of is some one putting a razor to my face that i don't trust never seen them use one

when i was in turkey they were every where and i really wanted to try it but down to trust i didn't

is this something that is easy for some one to try in there own home

i heard this is the best type of shaves
 
I used to use one a few years back.

It's not difficult. You'll start off slow and get the odd nick but once you get used to holding the blade at the correct angle you will get more 'flicky' and do it without thinking.

It's as 'close' as a shave gets as unlike other methods, there's no foil or guard between the blade and your skin.

Just make sure you get a strop and keep it really sharp from the off.

Grow a full beard - saves so much time and no chance of razor rash or nicks (and you don't smell like a tart's parlour!)

Well, I do have a faceful of pussy in that shot! My beard isn't quite that ginger these days - much more grey in it now. :(
 
No thanks. I've been wet shaving since I was a teenager - a long time ago - with just about every type of razor from the old safety type to modern multi-blade ones. Using an open razor and keeping the edge sharpened/stropped sounds like too much fuss, and I can't see the result being any better than I get at the moment. I do prefer a shaving brush and soap to creams and foams though.

Go along with this...shaving is a bore, still have an old American hollow ground cut throat in a bedroom drawer used it at odd times to impress myself, but found it needs to be kept ultra sharp or you will have a face like a slapped ass (not that I condone that) I once had a gentleman's open razor shave at a hairdressers in Fleet street years ago it was quite pleasant they soften your skin with a hot steamed towel and lots of soap my face was as smooth as porcelain after and they expected a tip... hardly going to happen at home though.

I use a BIC sensitive disposal razor..King of Shaves soap and a good quality brush...oh I still use Lifebouy toilet soap to shower and clean the dangly bits.:)

I have to agree too..... without wanting to have man points deducted, my skin can be a little sensitive and I suffer from the occasional outbreak of spots.

Had a "proper" shave a couple of years back and the result wasn't good! My face was SOOOOOOO sore after. I wouldn't have minded if it was as smooth as a baby's bum but it wasn't, I still managed to removed stubble with my Fusion razor.

I had one and swore by it years ago. I got to the point where I could take the soap off a blown up baloon without bursting it. I got it sharpened regularly by a specialist but when he retired I couldn't find anyone who could sharpen them as well as he could so I gave in and got a normal twin bladed razor. This was before the likes of 4 or 5 bladed heads and a twin was quite innovative at the time. I've never had a shave with a safety razor that was as good as my old straight razor but now I'm getting older I think I'll stay with what I've got. I get more nicks now than I ever did with the straight razor though.
 
did it once, and now treet myself to it every now and again.. awesome experience... The guy in Norwich is a Muslim Turk (not thht that makes any difference to me) but does it in a very traditional style... first time, I nearly shat myself.. but now it is a fortnightly luxury for 30 mins..
