I've had a Nikon D4s from Japan in customs for a week now, all it says is 'More information needed from addressee'... fecking annoying, i suppose I'll have to wait another week to get a letter or something????? anybody else had this? Why can't they just put the charges on and put it through???

was it declared correctly ? The most common reason for custonms hold ups is because the valuie of an item either wasnt declared or was declared incorrectly (either deliberately or by accident) , they won't pass it until they have the correct valuation and can apply the appropriate ammount of vat

i asked the seller and he said he did it correctly, i got a second hand one with 90 shots for £2800 so they may think its new and worth more perhaps?

it should be fine if he clearly declared that what it was - the other possiblity is that they don't have full contact details for you to send the bill etc , or that they have sent the bill and are waiting for payment

nah its parcel force that pay them and then they send me a bill but it hasnt got to parcel force yet, so i suppose i have to wait for a letter from them but its killing me lol, they are soooo slooooow

Dunno

well the saga is nearly ended, i should be getting it Tuesday, but they have charged my £93 duty when it states on the governments website that digital cameras are free from duty??????

Is there a lens with it? Lenses are liable for duty.

nope

ive called customs and they agree it should have been zero % so i have to make a claim <sigh>

It should get sorted in the end. I loaned a mountain bike frame to a friend who took it to South Korea before eventually shipped it back to me - customs wanted to charge me duty to import my own bike frame, and we went through various hoops before finally sorting it out.

Well it finally turned up today phew... item as described with a 93 shutter count, its brand new :D

lol

If it was exported to Korea with the intention of re-importing it, then your carnet would state that and there'd be no duty payable.

I suspect I wasn't officially exported, and therefore there was no Carnet/AWB/FBL etc covering the trip out there, hence the difficulties when returned.

IIRC there was a carnet, which I managed to get a copy of when challenging a request for £400 duty, but it was several years ago, matter sorted with only moderate hassle and life has moved on.
